The Dudes Furniture

What style of bentwood furniture does The Dude in The Big Lebowski have in his pad? Does this style have a name? Google images came up with only one matching photo when I searched for "Bentwood Mission Furniture" I do not believe that this is any kind of a variant on the mission style, but this is where it was found.

Where is this table from?

Where in the world is this table (1 2) from? We got it at a yard sale. It's octagonal, about 27" in diameter, and 6" high, and it has metal ornamentation attached to the top. We were thinking South Asia, or perhaps North Africa, but really have no idea. Any help much appreciated!

Wall unit. Who made this thing?

Need a new drawer glide for my wall unit. Can you identify the manufacturer of this furniture (photo) or a source for replacement parts? In 1997 I purchased a modular wall unit from Workbench Furniture, a furniture importer and retailer that went out of business in 2003. I believe they called it the "Venezia wall system". It could be configured many different ways. I know it was made in Italy but i have no other information on the manufacturer. [more inside]

Help us find a sofa bed in NYC

We're in the process of relocating to New York and need help finding a great sofa bed for all of our impending visitors! Mr Hibbersk is currently there organizing our apartment in Brooklyn and we had planned to buy this sofa bed from Ikea - however it is out of stock across the entire country and they don't know when it will be available (something about factory relocations and shortages). What's the best way to find plans for building an office desk from scratch?

I'm a tall, skinny software developer, (6'5"/196cm) who cannot find a desk even remotely what I need/want in terms of style, quality, and size. I am going to have a carpenter build me a desk. Google has found me nothing. Do you have a desk you love? What makes you love it? Are you a tall person who finds they need keyboard/mouse at exactly the right height? How did you solve this? Do you have plans you love or a desk design you can recommend? [more inside]

A table shouldn't be this hard to search for

I'm looking for a tall, square bar-style table, at least 40 inches high, with four legs (i.e. not a pedestal table), and two chairs of matching height, with backs. I'm finding this surprisingly hard to search for online. Is there a website out there which can help me? I looked at Ikea, and I found this, which is perfect for the table, but it's not available online.

Putting casters on the narrow bottom of old bookshelves. Help?

How do I put casters on the bottom of this bookshelf? The bottom looks like this. The bookshelf itself is of some kind of MDF or high density particleboard, i.e. not pure wood. Antiquing means so many different things

I need an antique (or sufficiently vintage-y-antiqu-y styled) trunk for my living room. Problem: every piece I've seen to has been too big, too worn, too ugly, or too expensive. Where would I find stores/markets/fairs/dealers in the NYC metro area that might carry such trunks? I got a zipcar, so I can tool around the tri-state area. Insanely detailed requirements follow.
