Can this waterlogged mini-bar be saved?

On a walk through the alley behind my apartment building, I discovered a beautiful vintage vinyl-upholstered bar next to the dumpster, abandoned by some craigslist-averse neighbor. Unfortunately, it appears to have absorbed several gallons of this morning's downpour. There are a few tears in the vinyl, and the foam beneath is saturated- ditto for the plywood shelves. Is it salvageable? Should I try to use a hairdryer, or will that only hasten the development of dry rot?

one couch too many

My beloved is leaving her apartment in Oakland, which means getting rid of her couch. She arranged with a local thrift store to pick it up, but upon inspection they were unwilling to do so, citing "sun damage". Now she has only about 48 hours to get the couch out of her apartment and get rid of it. Any suggestions? Goodwill no longer does pick-ups. [more inside]

I would do it myself if I only knew how.

I'm looking for good books and blogs on furniture building and other diy home improvement projects for apartment dwellers. I like building things, and am interested in making my own furniture, but I'd like to use a book that's geared toward small spaces and spaces where one can't actually make "built-ins" but can replicate the look.

How do I sell a white elephant (table)?

My husband came into our relationship with a very expensive Stickley (not antique) dining table. It doesn't match any of our furniture, it's too big for our space, and it also comes with some bad memories from his previous marriage. We'd love to sell it, but can't seem to find a buyer. We've had no bites on Craigslist (other than scammers), no luck with an estate sales company, and when I check completed listings on eBay, I see that similar tables don't sell, new or used. What are we missing? [more inside]

Just moved, got to my new apartment, only to find movers lost one piece of this end table (Target link) - namely one of the plastic feet. I have everything else. Any way to get/buy a single plastic foot for the table? Ideas? I couldn't even discern the manufacturer from the Target website.

Turn a log into a stool!

My favorite tree went down in a huge storm here in Brooklyn and I recovered a log from it to turn it into a stool. It has been sitting on the ground for at least 3 weeks, but looks good, no rot. I did see some bugs and there is definitely dog pee on it. How should I clean it, make sure the bugs are out and then seal it up (polyurethane I assume). I'm a total novice at this and could use some advice!

How to get Aeron chairs fixed on-site?

We have six Herman Miller Aeron chairs in varying states of disrepair in our office. Some need new parts and a couple don't tilt or raise properly, etc. Some were bought new and some were bought secondhand, and everything I've found online says to take them to a dealer, which I'd like to avoid (hassle, having no chairs for a while, etc). I'd like someone to come over and diagnose them and replace parts and/or fix them on-site (I'm in Manhattan). Anybody know a service that does this?

What kind of hardware would I need to convert the top of my desk to an adjustable sit/stand?

I'm really intrigued by the idea of a variable height sit/stand desk, but for a couple reasons, I'm probably stuck with my current utterly inconspicuous, heavy wood composite desk. Fortunately, the top comes off, so I think I might be able to modify the desk so that I can raise/lower the top independently of the rest of the desk. What kind of hardware would I need, and where can I buy it? [more inside]
