Due to an oddly arranged living room and an unfortunately placed cold air return duct, I have some very specific requirements in a corner media cabinet and I think I need to have one custom built. I’m in the Boston / Metrowest area.

Nicest but Cheapest Furniture Possible for a New Home? I'm looking for something more durable and nicer than IKEA (my furniture staple since college), on par with, but at a discount from the normal price of, Restoration Hardware, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, etc. I've had no luck at the Outlets for the previous stores. I've read about
hotel liquidators and have heard about special wholesalers only available for designers in major cities, but I'm not sure where to find them in D.C. (current city) or El Paso (where I'm moving). Bonus question: Do you have an online designer (like
Kelly and Olivia) that helped you?

My display cabinet cost me $1000 in 2003. It's mostly in very good condition, but has some scratches on the solid pine bottom shelf.
Similar (less well made) models are selling new for $1500 today.
What price should I advertise it for? What should be the lowest price that I accept for it?

I am thinking of building something like a breakfast tray (more like a laptop tray) out of steel wire mesh or something like it. The question is, where do I buy a sheet of wire mesh that is strong enough but malleable enough?

A desk I bought from office depot a couple of months ago has sharp edges -- not sharp enough to cut, but sharp enough to be plenty annoying if I ever touch those edges. Is there any easy and not-ugly way to deal with these?

I am looking to buy a desk and two-drawer lateral file cabinet in solid oak, Mission or Amish style. I have seen some nice furniture online (for example, at barnfurnituremart.com and missionliving.com), but have no idea if these are reliable sources. Does anyone have experience ordering this kind of furniture online, or alternatively, are there good stores in NYC?

I'm in the process of getting an entertainment unit built. Instead of glass, I'm thinking of putting something over the doors that would be dark (to hide the LEDs), allows my remotes to work, and still allows decent airflow. Any suggestions what would work here? Speaker fabric? Screen door mesh? Something else?

What style of bentwood furniture does The Dude in The Big Lebowski have in his pad? Does this style have a name? Google images came up with only one matching photo when I searched for "Bentwood Mission Furniture" I do not believe that this is any kind of a variant on the mission style, but this is where it was found.

Where in the world is this table (

Need a new drawer glide for my wall unit. Can you identify the manufacturer of this furniture (
photo) or a source for replacement parts? In 1997 I purchased a modular wall unit from
Workbench Furniture, a furniture importer and retailer that went out of business in 2003. I believe they called it the "Venezia wall system". It could be configured many different ways. I know it was made in Italy but i have no other information on the manufacturer.

We're in the process of relocating to New York and need help finding a great sofa bed for all of our impending visitors! Mr Hibbersk is currently there organizing our apartment in Brooklyn and we had planned to buy
this sofa bed from Ikea - however it is out of stock across the entire country and they don't know when it will be available (something about factory relocations and shortages).

I'm a tall, skinny software developer, (6'5"/196cm) who cannot find a desk even remotely what I need/want in terms of style, quality, and size. I am going to have a carpenter build me a desk. Google has found me nothing. Do you have a desk you love? What makes you love it? Are you a tall person who finds they need keyboard/mouse at exactly the right height? How did you solve this? Do you have plans you love or a desk design you can recommend?

I'm looking for a tall, square bar-style table, at least 40 inches high, with four legs (i.e. not a pedestal table), and two chairs of matching height, with backs. I'm finding this surprisingly hard to search for online. Is there a website out there which can help me? I looked at Ikea, and I found
this, which is perfect for the table, but it's not available online.
