I'm in need of new furniture and I'm wondering if I can buy on-line cheaper than the local furniture store prices. I'm looking at manufacturers like Hickory Chair, Baker, Henredon.
I know the advice of buying used, i.e. craigs list, estate sales etc. However, there are a few things I need right away and can't wait until the perfect used piece becomes available.
Any suggestions would be helpful. I live in Santa Rosa, CA which is 60 miles north of San Francisco.

I inadvertently left an open vial of super glue on top of my antique desk, and then leaned on it with my elbow. Now it's stuck on with a rock-hard ring that looks like a satellite view of a mountain range, a centimeter wide at its base and peaks of a millimeter or so. I've tried applying nail polish remover with little success: the glue is just too thick. I hesitate to scrape at it with a knife because doing so will trash the finish and perhaps gouge the wood, but I'm thinking that may be my only option. Any advice?

I need to furnish a house for myself, my wife and two small kids. We have zero furniture right now. We will only be in this house for a year until we eventually buy a house. Without knowing the space that we will eventually end up in, I am not sure if I should make big investments in couches, entertainment centers, etc. I need to do this as quickly as possible. Should I buy what I really want or should I just buy cheap stuff for now? Either way, what's the easiest way to do this without running around like a mad man? I am going to have to pull this off without any help. Should I just walk into Ikea with a shopping list? Can I have all of this stuff delivered? We are in Austin if it matters.

What is a good way to have a kitchen table sometimes, but not other times? We don't have space for a permanent kitchen table, but my fiance and I want to be able to have his parents and possibly 2 siblings over for dinner every couple of weeks. I'm having nightmares of plastic fold up card tables (yuck) or the dreaded TV trays (double yuck).
One thing we've thought of is a patio table that can sometimes come inside. Any links to cute looking patio tables that are not too heavy to bring in and out sometimes? Teak? Or?

My mom has a lot of stuff to sell, and she doesn't want the hassle of a do-it-yourself approach. What kind of people should we involve? We're thinking maybe an ebay broker for the small stuff and an estate person for the big stuff. (Or else maybe a place like Sotheby's?) Know any good ones who serve Westchester, NY? How would we find good people?
