My husband and I have just moved into an unfurnished house in Dublin, Ireland and we want to kit the place out as quickly as possible. But antique shops are incredibly expensive, and most furniture suppliers seem to take ages to deliver. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can move this along?

In search of eco-friendly patio furniture. We'd like to get a nice table and four chairs for the pending badass wooden deck in the backyard. Budget would be somewhere in the vicinity of $150-$250. Are we delusional?

Where's the best place to get furniture online? I'm looking to get a cheap couch/futon contraption for around 150-200 dollars, and so far I'm looking at kmart.com. I don't know where else to look.

The side rails on our wooden bed frame attach by hooking into a metal plate screwed into a recess in the headboard. We didn't assemble things snugly enough when we first put the bed together and as a result one of the screws on the metal plate eventually levered out of the wood. How do we repair this? Is there any aesthetically pleasing way to arrange two computers (and desks, office chairs), a TV (and table), and a big comfy couch in a single room. I'm always embarrassed at the ugliness of my functional apartment when people come over. [more inside]

I'm trying to find designs/plans for furniture made by cutting out the pieces from a single sheet of plywood & using only slots & grooves to hold them together, no nails, screws or glue. I've seen them online before, on some DIY blog or maybe boingboing, but I've looked at every site I can think of & done a fair amount of googling & come up blank. Anybody know what I'm talking about & can give me a pointer?

Are there good alternatives to Craigslist for selling furniture (in LA)? Ideally what I'd like is for a bunch of guys in a truck to come, give me some money, take my stuff all at once, and that would be the end of it. Does such a thing exist? This is nice functional furniture, not mid-century modern or anything antique.

Need furniture (wood) restoration tips
I just made an unbelievable find in the trash on a sidewalk in manhattan (you wouldnt believe the things people throw out here). Its a solid wood restaurant butcher block table whch measures 24" X 24" X 10" thick! It weighs 85kilos / 190lbs !!
I am really excited about restoring it. I have done some furniture restoration in the past but it always involved sanding the shit out of something until its bare again and refinishing it with a polyurethane or a stain of whatever flavor.
In this case I think the butcher block has a lot of character (such as knife marks, dents and has also gotten a nice color from all the grease and oils it came into contact with) and I want to preserve that somehow. Its really dirty and kind of nasty at the moment. Can someone offer some suggestions about which solvents i can use to clean it thogroughly? I'm thinking denatured alcohol / mineral spirits but will that be tough enough to clean it?

, but I cannot pay more than my rent for a piece of furniture. Can you point me to retailers of chairs that may have similar attributes? Bonus if they are in the Seattle area. I tried searching for some of the descriptors and nothing really came up. My apartment thanks you in advance.

Hi all. Does anyone know of a good place to buy furniture kits? What I mean is unassembled, unfinished furniture, preferably shipped to your door. In particular I am looking for a "breakfast bar" or "kitchen island." Is there a store like this?

Can anyone recommend a Washington, DC area furniture store where I can buy an affordable yet stylish chest of drawers or dresser? I'm looking for something that is a step above IKEA (I'd like real wood, not particle board) but a little cheaper than West Elm or Crate & Barrel. Thank you!
