Can anyone recommend resources, companies or strategies for finding suitable US furniture manufacturers for a line of new designs? [more inside]

My friend just moved to New York and is looking for a wood workshop / foundry at which to build a furniture prototype. Does anyone have any recommendations for one in Manhattan, Queens or Brooklyn? He is willing to pay a membership fee if necessary. Thanks.
