What I'm search for may not exist. We have recently purchased a new metal-framed coffee-table with legs that taper down to ~1/2" at the floor. With the legs being so slender, they are creating little holes in the pile of the rug that they rest on.
I'm looking for something like this,
but perhaps only 1/2" wide so they aren't so obvious in the middle of the living room. The smallest I've been able to find is about 3X that size.
Thoughts? I'm aware of the stick-on rubber/felt pads that are available and may need to go in that direction, but thought I'd see if anybody has some other ideas like above.

I'd like to acquire some sort of family computer desk or table. Ideally, it would be something like this so-called mega desk from Pottery Barn
, but actually designed with computers in mind (i.e., space to hold CPUs, cable management, etc). We need space for at least 2 desktops with large-ish monitors and space for a laptop. Any bright ideas? [more inside]

Where do you go when you've graduated from IKEA and are ready for decent, but not necessarily heirloom quality furniture? We're just hoping to find some stuff to carry us through the next 8-10 years, or is that unrealistic? How much should we honestly expect to spend? [more inside]

We are moving into our first flat! Hooray! However, it is unfurnished, so we need to buy us some furniture - specifically, a good sofa and a good dining/gaming table. If we go Ikea, what's the sweet spot between price and durability? [more inside]

I'm about to purchase a cheap dining room set at IKEA that is unstained solid pine that I am planning on either staining or painting. What colors might fit, and what kind of stain or paint should I use? I confess, I don't know what I'm doing. [more inside]

What is a good way to have a kitchen table sometimes, but not other times? We don't have space for a permanent kitchen table, but my fiance and I want to be able to have his parents and possibly 2 siblings over for dinner every couple of weeks. I'm having nightmares of plastic fold up card tables (yuck) or the dreaded TV trays (double yuck).
One thing we've thought of is a patio table that can sometimes come inside. Any links to cute looking patio tables that are not too heavy to bring in and out sometimes? Teak? Or?

A sticky pad has bonded itself to my all-wood endtable. Can I use a product like Goof-Off
to remove it, or will that damage the finish on the table? [more inside]

Where in the world is this table (1 2
) from? We got it at a yard sale. It's octagonal, about 27" in diameter, and 6" high, and it has metal ornamentation attached to the top. We were thinking South Asia, or perhaps North Africa, but really have no idea. Any help much appreciated!

Furniture filter: we are looking for a specific table for behind the couch that we saw in a vacation rental house years ago, but have still never seen something close enough for our purposes in a store, nor in on-line searches. I suspect we are just not looking in the right places, so I am prepared to feel stupid. Details within. [more inside]

Shopping filter: Seeking a very simple maple or oak bar stool, about 30" high, with a square or rectangular top. Preferably solid wood, but good quality composite material is ok. Must have flat top... we plan to use it as a bedside table. This stool at target.com
is the perfect shape and size, but the wrong color. I need a warm-toned maple, oak, ash. I've already looked at many retail sites... ikea, overstock, pottery bran, west elm. Any suggestions? We would prefer to order within the U.S. to save on shipping.

Cleaning tips for a Heywood-Wakefield dining table (champagne finish)? It has quite a bit of build-up and dust that Murphy's oil soap has failed to budge, but otherwise is in good shape (no chips, scratches, etc.). I've only found brief references online to using GoJo hand soap (which only seems available in bulk as an office supply) or naphtha (which I vaguely associate with flaming weapons of medieval warfare), so I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed.
