I've already checked out officefurniture.com, IKEA, Office Maxand Staples. Can you recommend a place to get modern type office furniture, particularly desks for around $500 or less? I'm looking for either a corner desk or L-shaped.

Is there any aesthetically pleasing way to arrange two computers (and desks, office chairs), a TV (and table), and a big comfy couch in a single room. I'm always embarrassed at the ugliness of my functional apartment when people come over. [more inside]

HomeImprovementFilter. Also, RiskOfBrainDamageFromPaintFumesFilter. I am purchasing two unfinished wood bookcases, and plan to paint them a glossy red. However, they are so heavy that once I get them delivered (4th floor walkup) I'll need to paint them in my apartment. I'm afraid that painting them in the apartment might be dangerous, fume-wise. I have a friend who is getting ready to furnish his new condo. He has a potential sweetheart deal on picking up some Rowe furniture, but neither he nor I know anything about it. Has anyone had any experience with it? Alternately, is there anywhere he can go to get comparative ratings of different brands of furniture?
