This is a long shot, but I have a chair at work that is extremely comfortable and I would like to buy the same chair for my desk at home. Does anyone recognize this chair
and know the brand/model name? Alternatively, where might I be able to find a logo or identifying mark on a chair? (I haven't been able to find one so far, but I may not be looking in the right places on the chair.) [more inside]

After years of back problems, I am seeking a chair that I can actually sit in comfortably. I am looking at the Gravity Balans
, but it costs a small fortune. However, I am desperate. Does anyone have any experience with this chair and is it worth it? Any suggestions for alternatives? [more inside]

What is this chair
My wife, a huge fan of design magazines, doesn't recognize it. She thinks it might be handmade, but it looks too industrial for that. No marks on the chair, either. What is it?

I saw this awesome rocking chair at yesterday's Free Comic Book day in Hoboken. The store says the owner is emotionally attached to it and not quite ready to sell it. So... does anybody know where to find a chair just like this? [more inside]

I just bought the Karlstad chair
from IKEA. It's slightly defective and I'm wondering how bad it would be if I overlooked this particular defect and went ahead with putting it together anyway. [more inside]

I need a new desk chair.
My last desk chair is about 5 years old and on its last legs. It was a rather pricey chair, and I really can't afford that level of expense again.
I need a good, ergonomic chair for around $200. [more inside]

I scavenged a chair from the street (oh, how Brooklyn of me) with the overly-ambitious intention of refinishing and reupholstering it. I can figure out how to to remove the seat and replace the fabric, but I'm stuck on several other necessary steps, to the point that I don't even know what terms to Google. Pictures within. My desk chair has locked in an upright position- it won't recline at all. I've noticed this happening before- eventually I'll try to lean back and it'll go right back. But what causes this, and is there anything specific I can do to get it to recline properly?

Is there such a thing as a dark-colored (black or brown) chair mat? Possibly woodgrain? If so, where can I get one?

I just moved and have a new job that will, fortunately, give me the opportunity to purchase nice furniture for the first time in my life. I'm more into modern designs, but with a quality touch. If there is a manufacturer that makes super high quality, modern stuff that would be the ticket for me. Anyway, I'm looking for online stores to shop on. I'm looking for literally everything a typical two person home needs. We currently have no furniture save a recliner, so we need a lot!
I'll admit I don't know the first thing about design, furniture history, etc. But I do want to learn. The ideal shops will offer quality and education.
I'm not looking for IKEA or super cheap options.
Basically, just give me some links of some kick ass online furniture and furnishing joints!

Why are chairs so uncomfortable? I mean the less-expensive corporate type, like you might find in an American meeting room or new-style classroom. There's only negligible support when you lean back! [more inside]

Hope me, style monkeys! I have fallen in love with this chair
, but I cannot pay more than my rent for a piece of furniture. Can you point me to retailers of chairs that may have similar attributes? Bonus if they are in the Seattle area. I tried searching for some of the descriptors and nothing really came up. My apartment thanks you in advance.

I'm currently using an Office Max $79 special that's doing horrible things to my back. Candidates must swivel, tilt, have adjustable arms, etc., but I'm not expecting an Aeron. Either mesh or standard cushion (not leather or similar) acceptable.

I need a better chair for my home workspace. Because my computer is a laptop I will never be able to achieve the ergonomically proper practices suggested in the diagrams here
(the way the keyboard is positioned here
is absurd. but negative tilt
is impossible with a laptop.)
To make matters worse: I love the touchpad mouse and the keyboard on the laptop to the point where I am unable to work efficiently with any other setup. However, while I can work well it costs me physically: my neck, shoulders, upper and lower back, and even thighs ache after short sessions of working.
I'm wondering, has anyone used a kneeling chair
with a laptop? The other problem is that the computer is old and I can't go wireless because it eats batteries.
