Smoking Jacket filter...

My school's mascot is the Yellow Jackets, and I'm trying to plan a gala fundraiser event. Any ideas for catchy names? It's a dinner & drinks kind of thing, and I'd love to have an easy title for it that's easy for people to remember, but I'm at a loss. Anyone have a better brain for this kind of stuff than I do?

American Girl conundrum - help me shop!!

I am responsible for creating a gift basket which will be auctioned off as a fundraiser for our elementary school. Our class was assigned the theme "American Girl doll". I have a lot of Feelings about this, but I must bravely put them aside and create a fabulous gift basket so that our school can afford things like paper and pencils. [more inside]

Appropriate Fancy Fundraiser attire for an Indian-themed event

I'm attending a fancy fundraiser soon. The theme is "A trip to India", but probably 1/2 of 1% of those in attendance will be non-white, much less from India or Indian-American. Everyone is expected to dress in "Indian style formal wear". Help me respect the event and the entire country of India, while not embarrassing myself. [more inside]

Fundraising site - donor can pay processing fee?

I remember running across a fundraiser on a site (ala GoFundMe or Indiegogo) where they gave the donors the option to add the processing fee to their donation, or take the processing fee out of their donation amount. Which site is this?

Is this reasonable?

I just found out that in addition to being required to work at my organization's fundraiser, employees also must pay the full ticket price to do so. In previous jobs, the situation has always been that you either work at the event and don't have to pay, or if you are not required to be there but think it's a cool event, you can pay to attend. I'm not happy about this arrangement, but maybe I'm off base. Is this a reasonable situation?

Help me find this article please

Within the last couple of months (and I'm really leaning towards more recently than that) I read an article that said if you're asking for donations to or fundraising for a charity, a little psychological trick is to tell people they don't have to donate. This would make them more likely to actually donate. I could have sworn it was on Lifehacker, but I can't find it anywhere, not even in a general Google search. Can you find it please?

Raising funds for a public library project?

My public library is renovating and The Friends OTL would like to sponsor a special collection/reading room in the Childrens department. I've been asked to help with the fundraising during the pre-planning phase of this endeavor by gathering examples of and ideas for promotional materials—flyers, glossies, and whatnot to help get the word out that this charitable opportunity exists. I don't really know where to start, though... do you? [more inside]
