I land at Boston Logan at 5 pm Friday night and have nothing to do until Saturday morning. What is there to do in Boston this Friday night? [more inside]
Two wonderful people - a Salvadoran and a Russian, both living in New York - just got married and have invited my girlfriend and me to join them on vacation in El Salvador this December. Carlos is very sweet, very generous, and very excited to show us his country of origin. It all sounds wonderful to me - beach, mountains, pupusas, family, etc. Plus monkeys! My girlfriend is also very fond of the couple and loves the idea of a tropical vacation, but is typically more cautious than I am and is concerned about safety. This seems to be a valid concern, given the overall crime rate, State Department travel warnings, and so on. El Salvador has a murder rate of 69 per 100,000 people, which is about the same as Flint, Michigan and twice that of Baltimore. I'm a fairly experienced traveler and am inclined to think we'd be safe as long as we stuck with Carlos and his family, but don't want to be foolish. Neither of us speaks Spanish terribly well and we could probably be identified as foreigners by our appearance. The same can be said for Carlos' wife. G/f and I decided to turn to the fine folks of MetaFilter for outside perspectives - thoughts, anecdotes, information, or advice - on the safety and advisability of traveling to El Salvador for fun. Thank you!
I'm going to SF with my partner for our first wedding anniversary - yay! We've been before and have seen some of the sights (list after the break), but are looking for things we might have missed, awesome places we haven't eaten at, great things we haven't seen, etc, so we can make the most of it. Only limiting factor: neither of us drive. [more inside]
My Italian nephew is the proud owner of a Greyhound bus pass. His pass is valid for two months, he speaks decent English, loves nature, and he is not afraid to sleep on the bus. He just arrived from New York City to Oklahoma City, where he will be based for a while. What loops around the US should he travel?
Myself and two friends are going to Las Canarias for the week before easter. We're flying into/out of La Palma, but we're interested in catching a ferry to other islands if there's cool stuff to do there. We're looking for recommendations for cool preferably cheapish things to do, places to eat, places to see, etc. [more inside]
What's fun and funky in Montreal next weekend? [more inside]
We're thinking about driving up to Montreal for a 4-day weekend next week -- 2 adults and a 7-year-old girl. There hasn't been a "what to see and do" post about Montreal here since 2005, so tell me what's to see and do these days with a focus on family fun. [more inside]
Experiences you can have in North Carolina, but not in England? Please help me show my soon-to-leave new friend a good time. She's been here in NC for almost two years (from England and, before that, India). What should she not miss before she leaves? [more inside]
