How flexible is the May 31st filing deadline for previous year Flexible Spending Account claims? Is it an automatic "NO!" or are they allowed to be nice and reimburse me if I have a good case for not filing before the deadline? Will it depend on my employer? It is a claim for a pretty small amount of money for them ($50) but significant for me. Do they even have an option for processing claims submitted after the deadline? [more inside]

I am considering taking a new job offer, however the new employer does not have a Flexible Medical Spending account (FSA) option. My current employer has this option and my family and I make extensive use of it. We have a lot of co-pays and other medical expenses such that the FSA account really saves us money.
Can one sign-up for an FSA account outside their employer? If your employer does not offer the FSA option are you out of luck? Thank you.

FSA and mail-in-rebate question: I am purchasing contact lenses to use up my FSA balance before I leave work. There is a mail-in-rebate. When I submit the claim to the FSA are they going to go by the mail-in-rebate price? [more inside]

My mom just gave me about a year and a half's worth of mail that she somehow thought I didn't need while I was away at college. A few of the letters in there are from Federal Student Aid telling me my account is overdue -- meaning that I had a small loan for University of California and when I dropped out of UC, I was apparently liable to pay back my entire loan ASAP. MedicalFSAFilter. Again. Have $2000 to spend in 6 weeks, had hoped to spend it on ugly teeth. Have pits in enamel on front teeth due to high fever (or maybe the medicine that brought that fever down) I had as a child. Said pits are ugly and brown, and I worry are just cavities waiting to happen. Dentist has mentioned veneers, but they aren't eligible for reimbursement. Any way to treat them that is reimbursable?

My Flexible Spending Account (FSA) has about $250 left on it to be used by the end of December - it's use it or lose it, so I'm looking for ideas on the most useful things I can spend this money on within the next 3 weeks. I am potentially interested in stocking a basic medicine cabinet items that would be useful for a baby/ small child. [more inside]

We have $3,000 left in our Flexible Spending Account (FSA)... pre-tax dollars that must be used by year's end or we forfeit them. We're married, about 40, with no children. Any ideas for good big-ticket items/appointments (health-related) to avoid losing our own money? [more inside]
