Help me navigate an appt with a new doc

I finally got health insurance after not having it for years. The problem is that it is my states crappy version of medicaid even though they won't admit it. It has already been a clusterfuck. Only 3 docs in my county accept this insurance. I have my first appt tomorrow and could use some advice on how to proceed. [more inside]

Job Search Etiquette

About a month ago I interviewed for a position through a placement agency. The interview went very well. So well, in fact, that the person with whom I interviewed didn't want to see any other candidates and wanted to hire me. Great, right? Well, not so fast... [more inside]

Why is there no such thing as urgent care for depression?

My partner is trying to seek medication for increasingly bad depression and can't get in to see anyone anywhere until late next month. Advice, suggestions? Location Madison, WI. We are more than willing to travel, but we'd want it to be for a psychiatrist/psychiatric NP, not another talk therapist. [more inside]

How do I stop swearing at my computer at work?

Do IT Jobs REALLY Have to be This Way? Is It Me?

Hello all. I'm a software developer, and I seem to be a magnet for batsh*t when it comes to jobs. During interviews, I've been outright lied to. Once I get on the job, I invariably find the positions I take are just not what the interviewer made it sound like they would be. Ultimately, I find these jobs descending into madness. Literally. I've found myself on the receiving end of everything from disrespect to downright mentally abusive behaviors. [more inside]

How do I stop monitoring people's emotions constantly?

I am constantly monitoring other people's tone, actions, facial expressions, etc. for signs of anger, frustration, irritation, etc. I am not conscious of it until something happens, and then I tense up, feel some adrenaline hit, and generally become really conscious of it until the situation is resolved. How do I reduce this impulse? [more inside]

Hey, it's the new Connie Willis novel -- get the forklift!

Despite being a great fan of Connie Willis, I had to give up on Blackout/All Clear when I was barely a hundred pages into All Clear because it had been such a meandering, repetitive read. (Others have been able to finish it, but share my frustration). Two brief, related questions: 1) Can someone please summarize what happened in the rest of the book? (Yes, SPOILERS!) and 2) What the hell is happening to Willis' editors, given that her novels have been getting more lengthy and repetitive? The Doomsday Book (1993) was perfectly sized for its story. Bellwether (1997) was a little repetitive, but it was relatively short and funny, and I enjoyed it overall. Her 2002 novel Passage, although a satisfying book in the end, was a maze of twisty little passages, all alike, for the first chunk as well. And then she delivered bouncing baby Buicks in the form of Blackout/All Clear this past year. Why? [more inside]

Sexual ethics: the giving of blowjobs

I'm a woman in a longterm committed relationship, and I love sex. Over the years, I've started to feel that I don't get anything out of giving my partner blowjobs, and the unfairness bothers me.
