Oh my cology!

An epidemic fungus seems to be killing off frogs. An epidemic fungus seems to be killing off bats. An epidemic fungus may be killing off bees.

Might these three epidemics be related? And is a fungus coming for us next? The chytrid fungus is killing frogs. White-nose syndrome, bats. And a possible cause of colony collapse disorder , which is taking out beehives, is a fungus. I can't help wondering if these things are related; it seems odd to me that three huge spokes in the wheel all get attacked at once. Is this unusual and might they be connected?

Can anyone help me find a long lost news article on bullfrogs?

Did the State of Oregon, the Federal Government, or any local agencies ever stock bullfrogs in ponds and lakes around Oregon? I swear I read a news article online in the last year that said such a thing happened (by ODFW? until the 1990's)?, but I cannot for the life of me find any reference to it or to get to the bottom of bullfrog stocking question. My first thought was that I read it at http://gazettetimes.com/, but maybe it was at http://registerguard.com/ or http://www.oregonlive.com/. I swear I've looked and looked and looked, but also swear I read it online... It's driving me nuts.

FroggyBack

Is anyone familiar with ancient Native American legends of giant frogs riding people? Well. That's about it. This is yet another one of those books I remember reading as a little kid. Giant, malevolent frogs that got on people's backs and forced them (the people) to carry them (the frogs) around piggyback. This wasn't a work of fiction -- well, I mean, it was, in the obvious sense that giant frogs probably never enslaved humanity, but the book itself was about folklore. ...Anybody?

Best place for frog's legs in Paris? I'm going to Paris for a week on vacation and have already found many good suggestions for things to do in some previous questions. One thing I would like to try though are some authentic frog's legs. Where are the best (reasonably-priced) places to go?

Froggers anyone?

Probably about 5 years ago my friends and I were going on a hiking trip up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire we stopped on the way up in what my dad says was Rochester, New Hampshire and ate breakfast at a little restaurant called Froggers. It was called Froggers because everything was covered in different types of frogs, from dolls to wooden statues to toy frogs, anything frog related you can think of. Does anybody from that area remember that restaurant or have any information? It might not have been the right town

Where'd all these frogs come from?

Vacationing in Roatan, Honduras for the past 10 days and up until yesterday hadn't seen a single frog. Last night, the frog croaking in the field outside my house was surprisingly loud. It literally sounds like thousands of frogs croaking at once. It's very cool. Today, saw frogs everywhere. Any frog experts know what kind of frogs these might be, why they were scarce until yesterday, and if it's normal for them to congregate in this fashion? I've asked some locals, and they've shrugged it off as if it's no big deal. It seems to me that if it's a regular occurence, it would be the sort of thing one would hear about as a tourist, in a "if you're here in Late September, don't miss the crazy frog migration". They've started up again, and it's so loud, that if i was standing down on the road, i'd have to shout to be heard. My guess is that it's mating related, but any specific info would be great.

New Year's Eve in Paris... any ideas? Girlfriend has booked our Euro Star tickets, it's my job to sort out the evening entertainment -- no trivial matter.

I went a couple of years ago, and in my naiveté ambled over to the Eiffel tower for midnight. Big mistake: champagne bottles in the air followed by huge riots. Excessively violent police response plus burnt out cars and pepper spray. Don't want to make that mistake again.

Budget is looking increasingly tight, by the way.

I'm trying to track down author and source for a specific quotation. I am trying to find the author and source of this quote: "How many fish have turned into dragons while the frogs are still croaking?" I've checked Google, bartleby.com and various library reference resources and have come up with nothing. Any and all assistance appreciated!

Will Box Elders Make Them Croak?

Can I feed box elder bugs to a frog? So, my kid "aquired" two frogs. Central Minnesota wandering around the yard kind. We were feeding them crickets from the pet store, but they were closed when we went to get more. A box elder bug crawled into the tank with them and they went crazy trying to get it and eat it. Since it is that time of the year around here, the back of my house is crawling with the little bugs. Can I sweep up a few and feed them to the froggies?

Can cats get high from licking/eating frogs?

Can cats get high from eating frogs? My mom just moved to a new house by a fishpond where a family of frogs also lives. Her cat seems to have grown addicted to the frogs - he eats one and then gets lethargic and glassy-eyed and just generally weird. Is this dangerous for him or just harmless fun? Well, not harmless for the frogs, of course.
