A friend of mine is coming in from a couple hours away (each way) for the night (halloween party), and money is tight on her end. I would go pick her up myself, but have to work late into the afternoon and wouldn't have time to drive up and back twice between today and tomorrow. I want to give her the money for gas (I am in a much better position financially), since I know this is a big expense for her and she is saving me the trip, but she is very independent and does not want me reimbursing her.
How can I get her to accept it without making damaging her ego or seeming like this is out of pity?

We were daily buddies at work for two years - she has a boyfriend and I'm married - but we cracked each other up and "fought the man" together. There were rules, and if I pushed them she reminded me, sometimes harshly but still there was genuine mutual
platonic affection. About a month after me getting laid off she won't talk to me anymore. It's really bothering me because I don't know why... advice??

My married friend intruduced me to another single friend of hers and we hit it off. Married friend wants me not to go for the guy 'cos SHE has feelings for him. I say I can go for him 'cos she is married and all I want is to make out with him and see where it goes.

My friend from childhood - who I haven't really kept up with much even though we live in the same neighborhood - woke up one morning to discover his wife of less than 3 years was unconscious. She is in a coma and it's not clear if she'll ever wake up. They have one kid. How do I offer my support?

This question is for my friend. He's looking to buy a more fuel efficient car (he gets 10-12 mpg from his Suburban—wants more like 20-25). He is looking at Volvo cars, specifically the 2000-2002 S60's, S70's, and C70's. Evidently the convertible models from the early 2000's weren't that safe. Looking to spend $11 grand or less. What information do you have about these Volvo models? What should he look out for? Are their similar convertibles to the C70 with similar MPG and better safety/maintenance records?

A longtime friend with whom I'd been in near-daily contact (via phone calls, emails, online chats - she's out of state) for ages now has suddenly become incredibly scarce. Nowadays we talk maybe once every week or so, and then only for an hour or so at most. I don't know what to do or say without being clingy, and given that she MAY also be clinically depressed, I'm afraid of saying anything that'll make things worse for her.
