My new mini fridge will not get colder than 43 degrees and I have it cranked up to max cold. I have gone through 2 of these fridges now and it seems they don't get colder than that. Is it safe to store food in there or will it make me sick. My fridge thermometer that I bought says than anything above 40 is in the "danger zone" .

Another one of metafilter's favorite topics. Fridge left open since 7am (CDT) this morning. Just discovered 20 minutes ago, so approximately 5 hours ago. It was only left open a crack because one of the drawers was part way open. Is everything a totally loss? Some things are still cool to the touch. [more inside]

If I roast some beets, place them in glass mason jars along with some chopped onions/herbs/salt and pepper- and then cover everything with vinegar, screw the lids on and place the jars in my fridge- how long should the jars stay good?
