My uncle's computer (a fairly old PC with Windows XP and a dial-up connection) freezes whenever he tries to connect to the internet. It gets as far as verifying the username and password before freezing up completely. Any ideas?

If I don't use my Dell PC computer for several hours and return to it, the various screens on my Firefox browser are often frozen. This sometimes affects non-web screens, such as word processing, etc.--but sometimes it doesn't. I can't even close out of the Firefox screens--I keep getting an error message. Any suggestions? I'm using a direct ethernet connection with a cable modem.

I was away from home for a week. When I left my desktop was fine. I came back today and it is randomly either freezing or restarting after 5-10 minutes use.
