I am looking for a fault-tolerant file copying freeware/shareware (WinXP) for copying very large directories (> 100GB) from volume A to volume B. By "fault tolerant", I mean that the process won't die if a particular subdir or file won't copy, it will just keep on chugging and log the problem.
This kinda sounds like is a prettified, Windows equivalent of rsync. Anyone?

I am working on an academic project in which a significant question has come up -- why do people distribute software as freeware (not open source) or shareware in situations where it is just as easy to distribute it commercially, using systems like Palmgear or Handango? Is it because developers don't think these projects are as valuable, or are there other reasons? Does anyone have either written evidence or personal experiences to share?

I've made a website for a relative; she wants to be able to add photos to it. I'm get her using WordPress to update the site, and she's got no problem with its upload procedure.
The problem is that she hasn't got good image editing software. None of the various options avialble to her (she's running Windows XP) allow her to crop an image to an aspect ratio; most don't even let her crop an image to a particualr pixel size. She shouldn't have to spring the big bucks for Photoshop. So my question is, what freeware/shareware is out ther for Windows users that allows users to crop to aspect ratio and pixel size?

I'm looking for shareware/freeware or Matlab .m files that will do Target Factor Analysis or Evolving Factor Analysis or some other chemometric technique that will allow me to analyze some titration data. The first few spectra are of a pure component and the later spectra are a mixture of components that I don't basis spectra for.

I'm looking for a good turbo listing program for ebay (I know I know) that works with Macintosh (OS 10.3). I have found one called GarageSale. Does anyone have experience with this or any other turbolister? I would prefer a shareware/free program, but am willing to pay if the program is highly recommended.

I'm giving away an old tray-loading iMac (256MB, either 266 or 333Mhz, I really can't recall right now) to a friend and have loaded it up with productivity-related stuff. Now I'm looking for games I can download. Freeware and shareware, preferably, as opposed to warez (although if you care to recommend a NES/SNES/etc. emulator ...). In particular, is there a decent FPS I can download for this machine? [more inside]

I need to convert a scanned pdf to searchable text, without printing it out and scanning it back in using OCR. Also, I'd like a cheap or free solution since I'm not likely to use it often ever again.

I'd like to use a font very similar to Adobe's Rockwell Roman, but in trying to find a freeware/shareware version I'm hindered by the facts that I don't know what else it would be called, and that 90% of font sites are junk. Any recommendations on how I could go about finding such a font?

Software Question - I am trying to find a freeware or shareware program that can rip from a DVD. Not necessarily an entire DVD, small 2-3 minutes clips from particular chapters. Preferably a program that can convert to .mpg or quicktime clip. Clips will be available for download for reference purposes for a limited time. So I guess this program would should also be able to compress converted files to smaller sizes. Any clue?
