I went on a long, long break form my creative career cause I was feeling burnt out due to some failures and now I can't seem to get back into it, possibly because I no longer have a financial incentive to do so. How can I fix this? Warning: Long, super privileged person problems.

I want to withdraw from consideration for a new full-time position at the company I'm temping at. How do I initiate that conversation? If the leader at this company asks why I want to stay on as a temp instead of taking a full-time position what do I say that will not burn bridges when the actual answer is "You're a bad boss and you should feel bad"?

I'd like to get more into freelance copywriting. It's something I can do from home, and I'm pretty good at it. I have a money and time goal for it.
Money: 5 cents a word
Time: 15 hours a week
Total: About $1,500 a month.
I'm on Textbroker, but they rarely pay more than 1.5 cents a word. I'm open to pay-by-project too, if they're consistent. How would I go about finding regular clients/websites that could help me reach my goal?

How do you manage your time and priorities as work ebbs and flows during your life as a freelancer? What do you do with your days between big jobs? What portion of your time is spent on paying work, managing your business (taxes, bills, sending invoices, etc.), personal/professional development, trying to find more work, networking, etc.? Do you deal with deluges and droughts, or is your work more steady and consistent, and how much control do you have about this situation? What do you do during lulls? How long did it take you to become comfortable with your workload after you became a freelancer?

My boss offered me a freelance project. I turned it down because I already work 55-65 hours a week and have no time for more projects (or a life). Now my boss is acting cold towards me. It's also close to review time. Any suggestions?

Sometimes I get small job requests that come from outside my fulltime job. They don't pay much (barely over 1k this year) but it's enough to require me to report myself as a business. Does that mean it's a second job?

I want to start building a network of contacts for branching out into freelance writing / editing / consulting work but I don't want my employer to know about it. I'm not planning to do the "me" work in working hours, but I don't want my name showing up on Facebook or my blog about how I'm trying to leave my lousy job appearing in google with my name attached to it... yet I want to (surely need to!) use social media to promote myself. When I've built more contacts, I can 'fess up and leave my day job, but until then... Any advice?

I remember reading an article in 2008 about an informal gathering in New York of people who do various kinds of freelance work; they met in a coffee shop, I believe. I think it may have been in New York magazine or the NYTimes, but I can't find it. Does anyone else remember this? Or know of a gathering that meets this description?

Why is it that freelance type creative people, like say musicians, artists, photographers, actors etc. tend to spend years between projects? Unless you're say a high-end music artist, it's economically infeasable. Signed bands usually have 2 or 3 years between albums. Yes, that's often to build up new material, but just as often that's not the case. What's the deal? Is there that much potential for burnout?
