We are looking for shelf-stable, packaged proteins and veggies that are gluten
free to go in lunches. We know about GoPicnic already, but we'd like some more variety and real vegetables of some sort! Proteins are mostly easy (spreads, dips, cheeses, jerkies), but finding the individual packed shelf stable ones are tough. We have found no veggies that fit the bill at all- we were thinking freeze dried veggies, but that sounds unappetizing and looks really expensive (also not individually packaged).

Help me ID/find this game: it may have been playable in-browser. If downloadable, it was free and probably worked on winxp. It might have only been at a demo/tech demo state, but it was a 3d first person puzzler where you aim and it would show you the trajectory of where a ball would bounce and you could then teleport to the end point of the trajectory? The idea was that you'd have to figure out which surface/angle to bounce off in order to get to a goal destination. May even have been posted to mefi. [more inside]

I need help with Irish genealogy websites and where to look.
I've joined a couple of sites; the site that looks the most promising is nickel-and-diming me to death just to look at the info that shows up in their searches. Irish records can be spotty, so some of them are totally wrong.
So, askMetafilter, where do I go from here without spending another 34 euros to see five records that are probably incorrect anyway?
The details (What I know 98% for-sure): [more inside]

I am gluten intolerant. I want pizza tonight and have volunteered to find a GF pizza dough recipe and make it for us. My husband is unconvinced, citing that while I make really good gluten free foods, every first attempt at a new GF recipe has been a flop (he's not wrong) so he suspects that the pizza won't be so good. Oh my god, I want to prove him wrong. [more inside]

My son and I are both gluten-free and incredibly sensitive to cross-contamination. We are going to a big family thanksgiving where the food will not be GF and cross-contamination will ruin the food that normally is. (a serving spoon being shared between dishes or someone dropping bread crumbs on an open dish would leave me very sick).
I would like to bring dishes so my son and I can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal. I don't mind spending this whole weekend cooking and freezing so he has a nice Thanksgiving. The only problem is that everything we bring has to be microwavable...
So help me MFites. What are your favorite Thanksgiving recipes that would hold up well to being warmed up from frozen in a microwave. (Don't worry about the recipe being gluten-free -- I'm pretty good at converting recipes).

If a work (say, a book) is licensed as a non-commercial CC, does that mean that anyone is free to make digital copies, photocopies, hardcopies, etc and redistribute it as long as they don't sell it? What about the author? Are they able to sell it for profit, after that? Can they publish it through a third party, (e.g. Harper Collins) and how does the third party get around the prohibition on commercial distribution? Maybe I'm understanding this all wrong. I'm trying to figure out if there is a license that would allow the author (and the publishers he selects) to profit from a work, but also gives people the right to copy and redistribute the work for free. If it exists, is it practical? Are there examples of publishers being willing to do this? Or does that model prevent them from making a profit by printing?

Our academic software project needs a self-hosted software gallery or "store", not to sell anything but rather to let people find and download software. I think what would work well is a store/gallery system similar to http://apps.usa.gov and http://apps.shopify.com (except our software is not mobile, but rather desktop software). Does anyone know of an open-source "app store infrastructure" system that we could use as a starting point? [more inside]

Awhile back I saw a soccer match where there was a play something like a penalty kick, something like a free kick, but not either of those exactly. I'm pretty sure it was taken within the penalty box, but not at the usual spot. The announcers were talking about how rare it was and how many teams don't practice for it. Anyone know what this could have been?

I have a 250 gig MacBook Pro, which is about 3 years old.
I have approx. 115 gigs of music stored in my Itunes library. All duplicate MP3 files were deleted.
That leaves 135 or some odd gigs of space.
I keep a large majority of my documents and files in a cloud service. I maybe have 5-10 gigs of random files I keep on my HD. That leaves approx. 125 gigs of space...
I know that the computer uses (and I'll guestimate 25 gigs for the OS & random program files I have on my system)...
That still leaves about 100 gigs worth of space un-accounted for....
When I open my 'finder', it tells me I have approx 50 gigs of space available.
I have downloaded Disk Inventory X which is suppose to give you a break down of where all the space is being used. I have also read about a program called DaisyDisk. Both seem to be reputable and popular. I d/l'ed DIX first cause it was free..It did the analysis....
But....While I have somewhat of an idea of computers, I am not sure what is safe to delete, what should't be touched....What if I delete something that has specs attached to files that shouldn't be deleted...Neither utility really gives me an idea of what is safe to delete and what should not be touched.
I know I must have a large cache of files and stuff that could be deleted....Image previews, etc....
I just don't know where to look. What is safe to get rid of.....Not sure what to do.....

I have an ex who seems to be be depressed and has sent me a few emails telling me that we are all programmed by the "Source" that free will does not exist, that nothing depends on us etc and that the "Source" has decided that he would always be unhappy in love ! And that if the "Source" has decided that he would be unhappy, unaccomplished, alone then he must be happy with that decision. (He's 55, pianist/composer, not well known, gets by with the financial help of his parents., never been able to commit or live with a woman. His father is bi-polar, been hospitalised a few times for that). This is contrary to my world view, which I told him but I'm rather worried about where his mind is going. Any thoughts, help much appreciated

I am relatively new to the smart phone world. But what I already learned is that incredibly many apps are for free. I wonder how that is possible. During the last month I have spent some time myself developing a financial app for Android - my preferred smart phone. The app of course could be useful not only for me but also for others. So I put it into the Google Play Store. Since I made some effort with bringing the thing to life I am not ready to give it away for free but expect getting a reasonable price paid. What I wonder is are people in general expecting apps to be free anyway? Are there other models how to finance the development of smart phone apps?
