France Fast! What do I need to know?

Whirlwind trip to France: Your tips needed (Fleurance, Aix, Paris). My wife & I going to Fleurance on business in the beginning of March and while the business portion should take a couple of days, we'll have at least a week in France. We'd like to see Aix (I was an exchange student there 20 years ago), and at least see Paris because we may never get another chance. [more inside]

S. France - overnight destination

Overnight Trip (from Paris) without a car -- which would be better: Avignon or Nimes? We will be on foot, staying just one night, and are into history, archeology, museums, good food. If one not better than the other, what differences should we know about?

Do you know of a recently published French book about an invented language and/or society?

I'm trying to track down a French book, published recently, 2010 or 2011. It's either a conlang book or a book about an invented society. Possibly both. It is not a novel or a collection of stories but a description of the language/society. This is the author's first book. It was published by a respected publishing house and garnered positive notes in France.

But they know so much about Wine and Chocolates!

In a few days I will be staying with friend's family in western France, at a house they own. I will be in the UK the next few days. Normally I would bring wine or chocolates as a thank you for the accommodation, but France does these much better and cheaper than the UK (I am told). I am Canadian. What could I bring that would still be a great gift, that I could find in London? It should be something like food or drink, and something of benefit to people on vacation. Price about $50. The friends I am visiting are French/Canadian and appreciate quality/luxury
