I didn't get my Eurail pass before I left. Now I have a surprise week off and I'd really like one. Will I run into any problems if I buy one, have it sent to my hometown in Canada, and have my parents send it back to me in France? I have 17 days before it needs to be in my hands.

How can I get pseudo-mobile internet in France for just two months? There are wifi hot spots all over but the prices seem outrageous, presumably the unlimited wifi is only for DSL customers?
I'd happily tether to my N900 or buy a separate GSM modem. Any
recommendations? It seems odd if
Orange's Mobicarte the is the cheapest?

I'm thinking about moving to Paris, France in a year.
I'm a software engineer living in Canada. I will have a degree within the next few months. I have an EU citizenship (Portugal). I speak almost no French. What should I look into? Is this a terrible idea?

Help me settle in Paris. What administrative things should I be doing? What local cultural things should I know about? What shops are equivalent to those at home? What should I know about?
In short: tell me everything you wish you'd known about life in France when you arrived.

In pictures of Paris you often see tall, round posting pillars (my term) on the sidewalks on which are posted advertisements and announcements -- what are these posting pillars actually called -- the best English translation is preferred. Thanks.

TravelFilter: French Public Transport advice. I'm flying into Marseille MP2 airport and need to find my way to Carpentras near Avignon to meet some friends. I'd prefer not to hire a car as I won't need it while there.
My firends might be able to pick me up in Avignon but would be good to get all the way to Carpentras if easy enough (and cheap).

Name that film: A noble woman in 18th C. France dresses as a man. I seem to remember her wearing a uniform but am unsure if she's in the military. She sets something of a trend and other women begin to copy her. She meets a man. He doesn't initially know that she's a woman. A love interest develops. I probably saw it on HBO or the like sometime in the mid 80's. It was probably released around the same time.

I'm going to be in Paris next week. I'll be alone for three days, and with a friend and her 2 year old daughter for four days. I'd like suggestions for the non-obvious things to do, for restaurants and cafes to go to (by myself and with my friend), for nightlife (there will be a babysitter at night), for places to shop, and for restaurants and activities that adults can enjoy that will be acceptable to a two year old.

So, my father, sister and I are planning a trip to Europe in mid-June. We need to work out quite where. I need to be able to fly in from London, the others to train or fly to wherever from Lyon. We need to go somewhere where we can stay for about 6 days, and there will be enough to entertain us there or in nearby town. I was wondering about Malta, my sister thought Genoa, my father thought St Tropez (our budget is not endless so perhaps not) Any suggestions?

I've got to file my income tax return. The catch? I'm working a one year contract in France and therefore am going to have to do it in a language I'm not particularly good at, with other complications detailed inside. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or alternatively, does anyone know what kind of person I'd need to employ to help me with it? (Accountant? Financial advisor?)

Going with a Swedish friend to escape insane work schedule for a week or so in mid-April. Both in our late-twenties. Never been down in the Alps skiing before, so want to get a good feel for it. Money is not an issue if the experience is good (within reason people...).
Looking for a nice comfortable hotel, good slopes, fun people, good food, _great_ scenery. (We're used to the beauty of Sweden/Norway, so needs to be up there :)
