Not so easy as 1-2-3

My six-year old son just received his "report card". It says he is "blocked", that he can't count or write his name in cursive. I don't know what to do to help him. He is finishing three years in the French version of pre-school before going to proper school next year. Everything in the report is fine, except he can't count past eight and doesn't know the alphabet. Last week (two weeks before the end of school) the teacher told us he has a "block" and needs to work harder. I have no idea what this work could be -- he writes out letters, copies them from books, spends hours looking at books, can concoct intricate stories and retell, ad nauseum, the plot of anything he has watched.

Does anyone have experience of what could cause this or what we can do to help. He has seen a speech therapist, who in France also deal with learning issues, and she does not think he is dyslexic. I don't want my happy, inventive little boy to be put in a box that says he's lazy or "blocked", so any suggestions would be wonderful.

Where should I go to med school?

Where can I get a quality medical education for cheap in Europe when dual French and Canadian nationalities? I'm an undergrad student in my 3rd year of an Honours Degree in biology at a university in Ontario, Canada. Right now, I'm on exchange in France.
I have both French and Canadian nationalities, but I've been living in Canada for the part 10 years, meaning that I fail the "residence" test for qualifying for EU tuition (i.e cheap tuition) at most European medical schools that I've looked at.
I'm looking to get a medical education in Europe, because this is where I'm planning to live and practice medicine. However, there is no way I can afford the exorbitant tuition rates that is charged to international students. I'd stay and do it in Canada, but that degree is not recognized in France (and other European countries, AFAIK).
To complicate matters, I'd prefer not to attend med school in France, because they would ignore my undergrad education, and I would have to start at the very beginning of the 8 year med program.
If it makes a difference, I'd also be interested in pursuing a masters in biology before med school, especially if that makes qualifying for EU tuition possible.
Any ideas? What's the best possible way of going about this to make it the easiest for me to get a "short", cheap, and transferrable medical degree? Or should I just suck it up, do it in Canada, and then jump through the hoops to be able to work in Europe later?

Studying abroad in high school. Recommendations? Advice? Anecdotes? I'm planning on doing this during the fall semester 2009-2010 (as a junior). Specifically to France.

I'm looking for company recommendations, advice, anecdotes, and whatever else you can say about the topic

Sorry if this question seemed a little disjointed.

Where to study French in France?

My wife and I want to spend about 6 months in France learning French intensively. Where should we go to study? A trawl of the web reveals a wealth of possible schools charging a wide range of prices. We are willing to pay more for somewhere really good but are not sure how to judge between them. Our primary emphasis is on conversation - then reading and finally writing. Some kind of certificate to go for at the end might be useful and in a qualification that had a good level of prestige within France would be best. We are both basic level speakers at present (we would probably be in different classes however) and are willing to be located pretty much anywhere. We are not sure on the extent to which a course based in Paris would give us a wide range of options - we also love Montpelier.

I've looked at related threads on Language Immersion and Studying French but neither helps us directly with this question.
