Years ago (2011), I read a graphic novel in France that I would like to find again. It was in color, decently big in print size, and featured this white liquid that would create statues(?) as it dried in-motion. Someone dipped themselves into a pool of the liquid, jumped from a tall height, and behind them was a statue trail of them falling. Unfortunately that's all I can remember; does this ring any bells for anyone?
There's a lot of writing on the internet about French eating habits and how refined (and superior) they are, but I'm curious how these habits play out in less refined circumstances. [more inside]
I read all the time about how French ladies indulge in carbs and fat but never gain weight. I'm assuming that the portions are smaller and they don't snack between meals. However, croissants and Brie every day? Really? I haven't been able to find what people actually eat for meals and snacks. [more inside]
It was either in French (most likely) or German (may have had English subtitles). It was about a poor kid having grown up to be a rich man, and the story was being told via flashbacks. The detail I remember is some scenes about him being invited to a rich kid's house for a dinner. He took homemade baklava as a gift, which was looked down upon. His family may have been Turkish immigrants to this European city. [more inside]
Hello, I'm looking for some good French podcasts that aren't simply radio broadcasts, but are more conversational/comedy/interview in style. I'm thinking of podcasts like: Judge John Hodgeman, WTF, Filmspotting, Comedy Bang Bang, Savage Lovecast, Lexicon Valley, My Brother my brother and me. Does such a thing even exist in France? I'd appreciate some help if you know of anything!

We'll be in Paris on March 13th and 14th. We're staying very close to the Musée d'Orsay but we're willing to travel off the beaten path. Currently we've found Les Climats which seems highly regarded and right up our alley in terms of menu. However... [more inside]
My friend is a French expat living in the USA and is almost finished writing a play--in French. She is looking for some feedback on her work from people who are decent speakers of French and know enough about writing for theater, or fiction in general, but it's been surprisingly difficult to find such people. Do you have any ideas for helping her find such people? [more inside]

I want to send a postcard from France to this restaurant in Japan where my friend is a cook. There appears to be an address on the front page of the website, but I'll be damned if I can make out what it says, much less recreate it on a postcard in a way that the French post can parse. I'm sure I could ask him myself, but I would prefer to surprise him. Can anyone help me with this?

Le Pop Super-Bon! Can anyone suggest French bubble-gum pop that's especially au courant? Like Yelle (particularly her first album), only more recent? Stuff good for dancing or for cleaning the house. I've seen these threads, but they're a bit stale. Merci à tous!
In 2010, the granddaughter of Marthe de Florian died at age 91. An apartment she had kept locked in Paris since 1940 was finally opened and among the items found in the apartment was a gorgeous painting of her grandmother by italian artist Giovanni Boldini. Every article about the discovery focuses on Marthe & Giovanni and the painting. My friends and I are far more interested in the granddaughter... Can you help us find details? [more inside]

In a few days I will be staying with friend's family in western France, at a house they own. I will be in the UK the next few days. Normally I would bring wine or chocolates as a thank you for the accommodation, but France does these much better and cheaper than the UK (I am told). I am Canadian. What could I bring that would still be a great gift, that I could find in London? It should be something like food or drink, and something of benefit to people on vacation. Price about $50. The friends I am visiting are French/Canadian and appreciate quality/luxury

What's the French Comics Canon? What are the books it's assumed everyone has read if you read French comics? I've gone through this list, but doesn't really tell you which are held in esteem or are big touchstones/turning points. My reading french is at or near elementary level - short sentences are fine, huge philosophical paragraphs less so.

(We're used to the beauty of Sweden/Norway, so needs to be up there :) [more inside]

I'm trying to learn French. I'm in France, which is a great start. I find I can just about manage with Tin Tin books so reckon that comics (BDs for the more francophone amongst you) or children's fiction will be a good way to relax whilst getting extra practice. Can you recommend some comics or kids books that are in French and not overly complicated linguistically? (I have tried Asterix, but the puns just fly past my confused brain).
Why are there so many French internet radio stations? On iTunes, they seem vastly disproportionate. Is there a legal reason, a historical reason, or something else?

I'm staying with friends on the border between Switzerland and France for about six weeks this summer and would like to find a school that offers intensive French lessons. Ideally I would leave for France sometime in the beginning of June and stay until mid-July, though my dates are flexible. I speak intermediate level French now and would be willing to come into a course a little late, if necessary. Thanks!
