Argument against Bill O'Reilly?

My uncle loves "The O'Reilly Factor" and relies on it for much of his news consumption. He sees Bill O'Reilly as a "straight-shooter". I'm trying to convince him of the folly of his ways. What evidence can I point to? thank you!

Is Medicare going to hurt my Mom?

My mom is TERRIFIED about the recent Health Care Reform Bill. She is on Medicare and is certain that she will no longer have the access to health coverage that she feels she needs. It sounds like changes to Medicare could have consequences for her... what might those be? I tried searching around for real answers but, of course, some of those answers lay in what the market will do when faced with these changes. She watches a lot of Fox news and Fox news is absolutely drumming the beat that Obama is going to kill your grandma. But, sorry news orgs, having trouble finding an equally compelling (so hard to beat FEAR) news source who is explaining things in way that could reassure her.

Is it possible to teach Firefox spell check to correct unusual words?

I type the word iphone a lot knowing It should be spelled iPhone but I'm lazy and would rather just right click it and correct it. I know I can right click it and add it to the dictionary but what I want it to do is give iPhone with the capital P as a suggestion. I have already added iPhone to the dictionary but dont want to add iphone because its the wrong spelling. My friend complains about the same problem when it comes to Facebook he spells it lowercase and wants spellchecker to give him the option of spelling it with the capitalized F. Just as it would if he typed amsterdam and it would suggest Amsterdam with the capitalized A. Is this possible to fix?
Thanxs in advance.

A coherent, succinct history of the failures of the Bush Administration

Help me rationally and calmly document the Bush administration to a friend who thinks history will hold it in "high regard"? It feels self-evident to me and I'm sure it's self-evident to many here, but a friend watches Fox News and thinks it really is fair and balanced. She just forwarded me this article, and she seems to think "they're all the same" so she's intending to make her choice in November based on "character" (remembering that she gets her news from Fox).

My incoherent rage doesn't seem to be working...well, actually I'm holding it in check. What I would like to do is put together something that covers the issues of the last eight years in a fairly succinct and rational fashion, e.g. goes through each issue (cabinet post?) and provides a page or a couple of paragraphs on each, covering the failures and screw-ups with references.

Does such a thing already exist? Bonus points for added explanations of why more of the same policies won't help. Points off for references to "evil", regardless of however tempting it may be.

I'm looking for musicians who've decided not to be on MySpace Music (because they don't want to provide free content/traffic for News Corp., because they don't want their work next to ads, or for other reasons related to MySpace). Where are statements, blog posts, etc., by such musicians? Your own thoughts on these issues are welcome too.

Honest to blog, I need it.

Is the screenplay for Diablo Cody's "Juno" online anywhere (other than the official Fox Searchlight site)? When "Juno" was just "the little movie that could", the screenplay was online on the Fox Searchlight website (previously discussed on MeFi in this thread). But now it's gone, probably taken down to keep it exclusive so they could sell more copies of it. Okay, fine. But I was gonna use a couple scenes for a class this week, and I don't have time to wait for the bound version to come in the mail-- so anyone know where I can find it online? (Or anyone have a saved copy they'd shoot me, mefi-mail-stylez?)

PS, I'm gonna buy this script at some point so I'm not stealing precious bucks from the mouths of the artist & studio, just borrowing.

Thanks.

Where'd Luanne's baby go?

What happened with Luanne's pregnancy on King of the Hill? I missed parts of seasons 10 and 11 of King of the Hill. I remember Luanne and Lucky being engaged and I think I remember them getting married. I definitely remember Luanne being very pregnant. But now she's not and there's been no mention of a baby in season 12. Can anyone tell me what happened? Did she give it up for adoption?

(I tried scanning the episode summaries on TV.com but they didn't illuminate. And the Wikipedia article seems to be out of date.)

Bonus points if you can name the specific episode that dealt with the birth/fate of the child.

How does Fox keep scoring new TV shows from geniuses? Series after series of wonderful shows with dedicated fan support... completely mistreated, and then usually canceled, by Fox. Episodes out of order, not shown at all, timeslots changed on a whim. You all know what I'm talking about.

Yet, Fox keeps landing new shows from the likes of Matt Groening, Seth MacFarlane, and Joss Whedon.

How and why? Continual promises that this time it will be different? Truckloads of cash? What's really going on here? Is there some offer that Fox can make that the other networks can't match?

DIRECTV/Fox Broadcasting Error I'm getting tiny weird checkerboard pattern errors flicking up on my screen for one or two frames at a time, all in different seemingly random locations every few seconds during every Fox broadcast (Simpsons, NFL, etc - not Fox News). I have an LCD TV & DIRECTV's new (non-Tivo) DVR. Does anyone have any idea about what's going on? It's not really a problem, since they're so small & they disappear in a heartbeat, but it's just quirky & I'm curious about it.

Who sponsors "The Factor"?

How can I find out what products and services sponsor "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox? I'm planning to organize a targeted boycott of "The Factor" and need accurate, up-to-date information about what products and services sponsor the show. However, I live in Canada and don't get Fox News and online clips of The Factor don't usually include the commercials. Google turned up an article that lists some sponsors as of January 2007, but I'd like to be able to verify that information and keep tabs on new sponsors and those who drop out.

Did Fox tamper with Idiocracy?

I got my first chance to see Idiocracy last night, and I loved it, but I'm left wondering how well the film I watched reflects Mike Judge's intentions. The most puzzling element to me was the intrusive and excessively literal narration, which frequently summarizes exactly what we just saw. I can't decide if this narration was forced onto the film by Fox executives pandering to simpleminded test audiences, or is Judge's parody of same, or some combination of the two. I've looked at a number of articles about the dumping of the film, including the Esquire interview, but nothing I've found so far seems to have the real scoop. There are also some indications that much more was left out of the film than the 4 minutes of deleted scenes on the DVD. Will there be a director's cut someday, or is this version it?

On a typical day this year, Fox's audience is 845,000 while CNN's is 466,000.^
As a proportion of the US population (c. 300,000,000^), this is less than 1/300, or 0.28% (Fox) or less than 1/600, or 0.16% (CNN).

How come they wield so much influence?

The Robotic Fanfare

What's with that awful, seemingly random series of electronic notes played over the Fox logo at the end of the credits on the Simpsons? At the end of each episode, it seems to be a coin-toss as to whether you'll hear the well-known Fox horn fanfare, but occasionally it sounds like, well, Kraftwerk getting drunk or something. Is that a new official corporate fanfare, or is something else happening?

Note that this isn't the DTMF "telephone dialing" sound that you occasionally hear to activate commercials on affiliates or cable networks.

Wild Fox -vs- Fluffy Dog

Do wild foxes normally attack dogs? My mother has a little white fluffy dog (Coton De Tulear) and last week she moved to a 22 acre farm that has lots of foxes. The dog has been seen "running with the foxes" as the foxes lead it away from their den and bark at it - the dog thinks they are playmates. How much danger is the dog in?

This evening Ms. Chyme followed this link to the "Buy It" link here; when the page loaded not only was the Simpsons DVD in the shopping cart, but also two more Simpsons DVDs and Garfield: the Movie, along with all of someone's personal information, including name, address, phone number, and all credit card information. The CC number is x'd out but for the last four digits, but the security code and everything else is in there. Presumably we could have ordered thousands of dollars worth of stuff and shipped it to this guy or, you know, to us. We Googled him and found that the information is correct. So, my questions: Why did this happen? Does the Fox Store have this bad a handle on its customers' data? Should we call him and let him know about this, or will he accuse us of "hacking the Gibson"?

Here is a screenshot with the relevant data removed.

Yet ANOTHER Election Night Question: What network should I be locked into on Tuesday night? I want fairness, either by straight non-partisanship or true balance, good solid analysis of what each state's results mean as we go, and some personality and banter to keep it interesting. ABC? CNN? MSNBC? FOX News? (hah. just kidding about that one.)

Do foxes hunt cats?

I live in a suburban neighborhood with trees and fences. I have an elderly cat. Lately, I've noticed a fox running around the neighborhood late at night - should I be worried for my cat's safety? What can I do about it? I'm an animal lover, so killing the fox would be out of the question. I'm not opposed, however, to scaring the shit out of the fox so that it leaves the area. If I could somehow get close enough to it to "attack" it and let it know my scent, then perhaps it would stay away from the neighborhood. I don't really know though. Any ideas?

News station research question

How many TV stations are there nationwide? ABC, NBC, FOX etc. have different listings for each market and would therefore be a seperate station to work for. Bonus for who has the best looking news anchor in your market.

Epidemiology

I've been watching 24 this season and it has gotten me interested in epidemiology. Can anybody suggest a good layperson's resource, either on the web or in print about the topic? I'm looking for information on how diseases spread and how the situation gets out of control. I've done my googlework, but most of the stuff seems to be to advanced for my current understanding or not very informative. Case studies and response projections would be awesome.
