I remember a forum website from the early-mid oughts (though its origins may have been earlier), and I'm looking for the name and/or for others who also remember it. It was characterized by a (CSS-based?) skinning system that members of the community were very proficient with. It was largely used for forum-based roleplay, at least the parts I frequented-- the usual Harry Potter and X-Men and fantasy stuff, but there also seemed to be a large contingent of people who liked to roleplay as wolves. A old bulletin board system disappeared, and some of the information was captured in archive.org. Most posts were not saved, but every once in a while I will get lucky and select a day and a thread that is actually archived. Is there any way I can figure out which ones are archived, without having to manually click all the threads on the forums across multiple dates? [more inside]

Are there any active online support groups for 9/11 survivors? I was in midtown when the WTC was attacked in 2001. That brought on several days of stressful situations for myself and others in the city (evacuating due to bomb threats, going near the site only to run for your life because fears of other buildings falling near the site, etc). I coped as everyone else did in the city, and for the past several years I've avoided most if not all 9/11 coverage. This year, the anniversary passed without me realizing it - but then on the 12th I was reading an article about first responders lobbying congress and it sent me down a rabbit hole of watching (for the first time) life news footage of the attacks. I am on a forum on proboards and when I post to it, it strips out the tabs so everything is left-aligned. I tried a search and replace and changed them to 4 spaces but it still left-aligned everything, which gives it a "wall of text" appearance. Is there any way to preserve the tabs?

I'm a 35-year-old American who has been living abroad for the past ten years, and I've had trouble making friends. The expat community isn't my scene (a lot of drama and drinking) and the locals aren't so welcoming to foreigners. I'm looking for some kind of online community that will give me the sense of belonging I don't have. [more inside]
I occasionally have questions that come up with regards to PhD work that I don't necessarily feel comfortable asking in person to other people in my program or to my adviser. Recently I've found myself wishing for an online community of other academics so I could get advice and share information in a pseudonymous environment. Are there any well known communities that fit this description out there?
After several years of treatment, with less than optimal results, my psychiatrist and I have agreed to switch me to a new antidepressant. I'm looking for recommendations for well-moderated discussion groups about depression and antidepressant treatments, where people can share their experiences with side effects, etc. with each other. I just want a place where I can get a sense of what to expect, and what's normal/abnormal, when a take a particular drug.

I run a forum where we discuss open source book scanning technology. Many users visit only occasionally. In a recent update, PHPBB enabled a feature called "Auto User Pruning", and it deleted users who had not logged in for 24 months. Two Thousand Users were deleted. It did not delete their posts, and their account names are still attached to their posts. Please help me restore these users from my database backups or via some other method.

MFers where do you like to go to discuss or read discussions about music, specifically modern electronic music? I don't mean where to read articles, reviews, interviews; those are nice, and I read those websites, and I know most of those websites have forums... but most of them don't seem to be very good, and to be honest I haven't really, really explored them. Is there anywhere that consistently has a high level discourse from users? Or is it all 90% signatures, images, and yelling "BIG TRACK" ... [more inside]

Scenario: Office employees need to be able to log into a system and post opinions/comments on a daily basis for a period of 10 days. These need to be threaded and in response to a prompting question or two each time. Employees should be able to read thru other comments and look back thru older threads. I know there's a gazillion forum systems, and blog alternatives. Do you have a recommendation on which particular system would be best? I do not need a lot of features beyond what's described above. Most blog features would not be used. Not a public (ie. Facebook) type system. Bonus points for: ~ Clean, easy, pleasing, spare interface. ~ Back end tracking by user. ~ Easy install. Thanks!
