I'm looking for easy-to-manage community forum software. I run a site hosted at Dreamhost, and would like to add a message board for community discussion. I'm not averse to using phpbb (which Dreamhost can auto-install) if it can be made administrator-friendly. (I find the current admin panel a frustrating pile of crap.) In particular, I don't want to have to mess with spam user registrations. Ideally users could register and use the site with ease, while spammers would be blocked with minimal intervention on my part. (Kind of how WordPress/Akismet deals with spam comments.) I rather like the Joel on Software discussion group layout — clean, simple, yet effective. Willing to pay, if needed.
I'm running a PhPBB forum. Spammers have found it. Mysterious strangers selling vigorous blue pills popped up from nowhere. Now I need to build something that will prevent spammers from polluting it. Is there a silver bullet that prevents all spammers from ever posting on PHPBB forums ? (I know, but I'm an eternal optimistic). Any antispam mods that has been successfullyt tested someone would like to recommend ? Thanks in adavance.

I really should post this anonymously, but what the hell... I'm at the level of tech savviness/cluelessness where I usually know the meaning of tech. terms but often have no idea what things really mean or how they're applied. So while I read all the references to wikis here on askme, I realize that, aside from wikipedia, I've never looked at a wiki and have no concrete idea what differentiates it from a forum, or a blog. Trademarks - There's a forum-style website called IKEAforum and it displays the IKEA logo, but has a disclaimer that the site has no sponsorship or affiliation whatsoever with IKEA. Is the creator of this website at risk for a lawsuit from IKEA for trademark violation? (due to the URL, use of logo, etc). Could IKEA shut him down? Does it matter that it's not a money-making site (and sells no ad space)? If I created a similar site regarding another retailer (but NOT using its logo) -- how risky is that? Free legal advice is welcome ;-)
I'm looking to add a very basic ASP 'support' forum for an industrial site. Natuarally, this is on a shoestring budget, and I'd prefer not to write it myself. I'm hoping that there is a basic forum implementation that I can adapt. The hosting of the site presents all sorts of 'fun' requirements. [more inside]

I would like to relocate the forum post that described when pitchforkmedia.com was "hacked" last fall. Normally I would attempt to locate it myself but my Google-fu has not been helpful. The forum was a community of people that disliked Pitchfork. The title of the thread in question was something along the lines of "when pitchforkmedia.com/1up becomes pitchforkmedia.com/2up" and it was where someone had merely found a directory containing private emails of the Pitchfork's chief. Can you help me find that thread again?

Does anyone have recommendations as to voice chat software for a forum? We'd ideally like to have a regulated chat room in vbulletin where one person has voice control (for a lesson type environment), but standalone software could work too (except paltalk). Ability to control who can enter the chat is a must.

What are some good message boards about OS X and using fileshares and peripherals on an existing network?
MacPlungeFilter: I'm one of those "IPod users with a PC" who is thinking about taking the plunge to the other side by adding a Mac Mini to my home network. I don't want to clutter up AskMe with too much product-specific chatter, so my question is, where are some good message boards I can read to increase my knowledge, of Mac OS X in general and, in specific, what I will need to do to get the Mac to use fileshares and peripherals on my existing network. All the better if the denizens of the community are not hostile to incoming Windoze users.
S.O.S. We're being hacked! I run a small community website and somebody is trying to hack our VBulletin-powered forum. So far our passwords and usernames have been tampered with. How do we prevent this bastard from messing up years of dedicated volunteer work? Can we trace who the offender is? Any strategies in dealing with his demented mind? Its depressing/ I'm taking this personally. After years of thankless effort this is what my partners and I get. Please help.

I'm looking for a forum/discussion site about photography, particularly about the business end of being a photographer. Recommendations?
phpBB, Invision, etc., are all great forum systems. The main drawback, for me, is that they all seem so bloated and cluttered. Statistics, rankings, avatars, signatures, etc., all seem to get in the way of actual content. Are there any good, robust, flexible, but more lightweight message board systems out there?
