Can a Google Groups user (Member) select to view only posts from a Owner/Manager? We are trialing use of Google Groups as an e-mail discussion forum, but would like an option for users to opt out of receiving e-mails from anyone other than an Owner or Manager if they don't want to participate. Does anyone know if this is possible and what the settings should be? I can only view the group as an Owner so I don't know what a Member would see as their options.

I read a forum that uses emoticons a lot, and there is a specific one I'd like to hide. I don't mind the rest, so a solution that excludes/disables that single file would be preferred. However if there are only ways to hide them all, I'm open to that, too. I'd prefer solutions compatible with Chrome and OSX 10.9.2, but I use other browsers and operating systems as well, so all suggestions are helpful. [more inside]
I'm getting back into running for fun and fitness after a couple of decades of not running. The last time I was running seriously, the WWW had just been invented and Usenet's rec.running was the place to go. Can you recommend your favorite online community for runners--the kind of place to exchange route ideas, gear reviews, and training tips? I'm an occasional participant at BikeForums.net, which offers all that for cycling, and I'd like to find something similar for runners.
I have a group of friends with whom I'd like to organise miscellaneous stuff, mostly various different conversations but potentially also the usual complement of files, todo lists, and photos. At the moment we have one massive email thread that everyone replies to, but there must be a better way to keep multiple conversations going at once! [more inside]
I had a meeting yesterday about a very exciting business opportunity. The woman I met with is part of my social/business circle, and I know that she has recently become very involved with Landmark, and has pressured all of her friends and associates to join, as is the Landmark custom. During the meeting she suggested that I come to an introductory event. I told her that I had some familiarity with it and was not interested, but of course, she tried to talk me into it. I changed the subject and she dropped it, for now. Based on past experience, it will come up again and again and again because that's what Landmark teaches its proponents to do. [more inside]
What are some stress-reduction techniques that support representatives and forum moderators use on-the-spot to remain cool and collected during difficult interactions with clients, and not let their own frustration get the best of them? [more inside]
I've got an idea for a community website that is women centric in a very male dominated hobby. I've looked, there really doesn't seem to be a community catering to women in this hobby out there right now, and I'm coming to realize that this really could be a good niche because women involved in the hobby are pretty marginalized. What I could use some advice on is - do I make it woman only, or allow men to participate just promoting to women and keeping some women centric topics? [more inside]

Please help me find a thread (from a year or two ago) that consisted entirely of people sharing stories (for the first time ever) of nice things they've done for complete strangers. It was popular at the time, but I can't seem to find it now! [more inside]
I moderate a couple of forums but would prefer not to have to keep checking recent posts' page to see if someone has posted something. Is there a program (for Linux) that would check for new posts on a vBulletin forum for me and alert me of them? I haven't heard of anything like that before but since there are so many social networking applications out there now, I thought it would be worth a shot.

I own a forum where the majority of our posters are minors. What can I (or should I) do about a user who is sending sexual advances to other members via our PM system? He keeps coming back under new names after we ban him and we aren’t sure what legal obligations we may have regarding this.
