Patient/physician sharing info blogs/forums in Germany

I am interested in finding forums or blogs about breast cancer treatments in Germany to see the content and sentiment of conversations happening among patients and/or physicians. If they are behind a pay wall I would be interested in purchasing the data if possible. Thanks for input!

Is there a way to hide a specific emoticon in a web forum?

I read a forum that uses emoticons a lot, and there is a specific one I'd like to hide. I don't mind the rest, so a solution that excludes/disables that single file would be preferred. However if there are only ways to hide them all, I'm open to that, too. I'd prefer solutions compatible with Chrome and OSX 10.9.2, but I use other browsers and operating systems as well, so all suggestions are helpful. [more inside]

Ultra-friendly free forum software?

We're building a website for seniors and want to make it easy for them to get into bulletin board-style discussions that you can register for with Facebook or other really easy login, similar to the forums at Gawker. Is such a thing freely available somewhere? We've been experimenting with BBPress but so far it seems a little bit hard for our audience to get into, unless maybe there is some module out there that makes it easier?

Easy-to-use forum solution, maybe a suite of apps, other than GoogleApps

Our non-profit [a Quaker Meeting] is looking to expand our online offerings, both internally--for our members and attenders [private forums, and possibly more real-time social features], and also a more friendly and informative public-facing website than we have now. Any of the solutions should be easy to administer for people with middling to pretty good internet/computer knowledge. We are looking at Google Apps for non-profits, but so far, I'm finding their Google Groups a pretty poor approximation of a web forum. So I'd like to know what other options may be out there for us. We'd ideally like a full-featured suite of products that can grow with us, but if we build something piecemeal, are probably most interested in first having a user-friendly but robust forum. Free is ideal, inexpensive could be considered, based on features. We are a 501(c)(3). Would love pointers to software or cloud solutions, but am also interested in exploring groups that are already using such software [if they are public].

RunFilter: Something like BikeForums.net, but for running?

I'm getting back into running for fun and fitness after a couple of decades of not running. The last time I was running seriously, the WWW had just been invented and Usenet's rec.running was the place to go. Can you recommend your favorite online community for runners--the kind of place to exchange route ideas, gear reviews, and training tips? I'm an occasional participant at BikeForums.net, which offers all that for cycling, and I'd like to find something similar for runners.

Where can I find some like-minded people in RL and on the internet?

Lately I've been feeling pretty isolated because none of my friends really share my views on civil rights or social justice. The people I know who are more progressive are really militant and extreme and they're not very helpful to be around either due to their rather harsh approach to their various causes. Where on the internet and in real life can I as a white girl go to be part of a community that is proactive and progressive towards intersectionality, feminism, LGBTQ rights, and similar topics? How do I say "no" to Landmark (and get them to drop it)?

I had a meeting yesterday about a very exciting business opportunity. The woman I met with is part of my social/business circle, and I know that she has recently become very involved with Landmark, and has pressured all of her friends and associates to join, as is the Landmark custom. During the meeting she suggested that I come to an introductory event. I told her that I had some familiarity with it and was not interested, but of course, she tried to talk me into it. I changed the subject and she dropped it, for now. Based on past experience, it will come up again and again and again because that's what Landmark teaches its proponents to do. [more inside]

Looking for blogs and news sources about Romania in English

In the not too distant future I will be relocating to Romania (through work), probably for a few years. Before I go, and while I'm there, I'd like to keep abreast of local current affairs and culture. What well-written and well-informed blogs or news sources *in English* should I keep an eye on? (obviously I am hoping to use this posting as a chance to brush up on my very limited Romanian, but that's going to take a while...) [more inside]

Can't find a Psychopath forum I had seen way back.

The forum was made up of psychopaths talking about their experiences, points of view and things they've done. It was fascinating to read and learn about. What prompted me to look into it back then was that I'm quite certain my father is one. The only results I've been finding are support forums for people who've been in relationships with psychopaths.

No Boys Allowed!

I've got an idea for a community website that is women centric in a very male dominated hobby. I've looked, there really doesn't seem to be a community catering to women in this hobby out there right now, and I'm coming to realize that this really could be a good niche because women involved in the hobby are pretty marginalized. What I could use some advice on is - do I make it woman only, or allow men to participate just promoting to women and keeping some women centric topics? [more inside]

Can web forums and email live together in harmony?

I'm part of a long-standing email list community (both digest and non-digest individual mail versions) where some folks would like to be able to move to some kind of web forum type format, but others would like to hang on to their plain old email mailing list format. Is there any software out there that would work well to allow for an email interface to a web forum? Or some other way to get the old school email folks and the people who want something more like phpbb to all talk amongst themselves without too much pain for either group?

Looking for a community/forum where I can learn more about networking, code, security, and OS-independent CS topics

I'm looking for a forum where I can ask questions about networking, security, coding, operating systems, web design, etc. There are many of these out there, but I'd like to find a single community which covers all these topics more or less equally (so it isn't a Linux forum with a small section on BSD, or a coding forum with a small section on networking). I'd like it to be the sort of forum where users stay around for several years as they learn and contribute at different levels, with high literacy and education-to-spam levels. Could I have your recommendations please?
