Texas To-Dos?

I'm stuck in Texas! Well, not stuck exactly, but I have some free time. I'm currently in Denton, TX and looking for cheap/free activities to get me though the rest of the weekend, within reasonable driving distance. Bonus for photogenic/neat/historical places. (Reasonable can be arbitrarily defined as, let's say, 50 miles.)

I definitely wouldn't rule out meeting other Mefites for coffee, as human companionship/conversation would be a plus. My cell phone # is in my profile, and I welcome calls.

A place for liberals in Fort Worth?

Three Democrats from Seattle have found themselves in a hotel across from the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on election night. Where can we go in public to enjoy Obama's impending victory (or be consoled over his devastating loss) without fear of Red State hate?

Ice Ice Baby.

Where can I find some good, quality shaved ice in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area? As summer is more or less already here, I've come to the notion that the only summer treat that will satisfy me is shaved ice.

And I'm not talking about that piddly "snow cone" (read: crushed ice) stuff like you'd get outside of a Home Depot for free (if I wanted that I could buy the $30 machine from Walmart). No, I mean shaved ice so smooth it's like fresh fallen snow drenched in delectable syrupy goodness.

I suppose my standards are pretty high, being weaned on Williams Plum St Sno Balls in New Orleans. However, it seems tough to really find a choice shaved ice stand because they typically don't advertise, and are often in places one wouldn't normally look.

So, do any of the Metroplex MeFites have any suggestions as to where I can go to make it through the summer?

Are there any markets in Texas that sell edible insects? I'm looking for Mexican style markets, not a novelty item sold at Whole Foods or Central Market. I've only planned on visiting Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston but I might rent a car and drive a little farther for an interesting market.

Where should we get married in DFW?

Nice cheap or free places to get married in Dallas/Fort Worth? My fiancé and I are set to be married next weekend and are looking for a cheap, preferably free place to have the ceremony. Does anyone have something in mind? I know I can Google it, but I'm more interested in real-life opinion than I am a search results list. (And I have Googled it.)

The wedding will be very low key (hence the quick planning) with only a few friends and family. We like scenic places outdoors with views and lakes and streams and gazebos and trees and flora and fauna. Perhaps a public park or something with a little space for the guests to stand?

Thanks in advance!

Fort Worth, TX - what do you suggest?

Fort Worth, Texas - I'll be there for a few days next week. What do you suggest? My first trip to Texas. I'll have a rental car and I'm thinking of staying in Fort Worth most of the time* for the three days I'm there. The zoo, Kimbell, Modern, stockyards, rodeo, botanic gardens - a little searching reveals that these are some of the attractions, but what am I missing or what do you consider most worth seeing/hearing? I guess you could say my interests are oriented towards museums, architecture and natural beauty (Possum Kingdom Lake looks cool if I can get out there), but I am open to other options too.

Also, suggestions for moderately priced places for lunch (likely to have veggie options) would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

*Maybe I'll drive into Dallas one day. The Sixth Floor Museum sounds interesting. Is the train between the two cities convenient, or am I better off sticking with my car?
