Workout classes near Fort Greene?

Brooklyn folk: Are there any affordable gyms in the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill area that offer strength training classes? Anything nearish to Atlantic Center would be excellent. I'm not interested in yoga or pilates, and I'd like to keep it near the 11238 zip code. Google turns up very little promising leads. Thanks!

Are there any Fort Wayne taxis that don't suck?

So are there any taxi companies in Fort Wayne, IN, that don't suck? Moved to town at the beginning of August. Hoping to get my drink on this weekend. I just moved from South Bend, IN, where it was almost impossible to get a cab inside 60 minutes, but I'm hoping that things are at least slightly better here.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

What's it like in Fort Erie, Canada? This is long-term planning for a place to live, nothing imminent. I am wondering if I should include Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada on my places-to-check-out list.

It seems to be in a good location, close to the many doings in the Niagara region, close to highways, on the water, and it seems like it might still have a viable, walkable downtown.

Or maybe it's a dead dying town with no future that borders and emulates the Buffalo wasteland.

For those of you who have been there, what's it like?

Looking for a comfortable, family-friendly hotel in Fort Lauderdale

Anyone have a recommendation for a nice, family-friendly hotel on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale? We're traveling in August with our daughter who will be 9 months old at the time. I'm thinking something along the lines of the Westin Beach Resort. Does anyone have any personal experience they can share about any of the hotels there?

And a couple of related questions for bonus points:

Do the hotels usually charge to hang out on the beach space adjacent to their hotel?

Any suggestions for fun family activities?

What should I include in an awesome treehouse?

So I want to build a treehouse for my kids...this is a very rough sketch of what I'm thinking about. What would make this treehouse super cool? I have two little girls (nearly 5 and nearly 3) and a new baby due this fall and I want to build a cool treehouse for them. The idea is basically an elevated deck with a rustic fort in the back corner. I want to put in a couple of swings underneath it and a fourteen foot slide with a ladder next to it.

Help me brainstorm what should be in the coolest treehouse ever.

Where can I find some good, quality shaved ice in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area? As summer is more or less already here, I've come to the notion that the only summer treat that will satisfy me is shaved ice.

And I'm not talking about that piddly "snow cone" (read: crushed ice) stuff like you'd get outside of a Home Depot for free (if I wanted that I could buy the $30 machine from Walmart). No, I mean shaved ice so smooth it's like fresh fallen snow drenched in delectable syrupy goodness.

I suppose my standards are pretty high, being weaned on Williams Plum St Sno Balls in New Orleans. However, it seems tough to really find a choice shaved ice stand because they typically don't advertise, and are often in places one wouldn't normally look.

So, do any of the Metroplex MeFites have any suggestions as to where I can go to make it through the summer?

How is it possible to detect arsenic in soil from a satellite? Fort Reno in DC was recently closed down because they identified arsenic in the soil from a satellite, but I'm not sure how that would be possible. Can you do x-ray fluoresence from space? Is there some other technique that's available that can see beneath the surface of land from that far away?

Anyone know a good BMW mechanic in the Fort Lee, NJ (Near the George Washington Bridge) area? I have a 1988 325ix and need someone trustworthy and competent to take care of it. Service at the BMW dealer is outrageously expensive. I've tried various BMW message boards and come up empty. Something in a 30 minute radius would be nice, but I'll take what you got!

What to see in Fort Worth in a week?

What should I see to get a feel for Fort Worth in just one short week? I'm currently looking in to the possibility of getting a job in Fort Worth (TX) for a couple of years, but as I've never even been to the US (I live in the UK), let alone lived there before, I'd like to see what I'm letting myself in for before I go. I'm sure I'll have many more questions about this topic as I look into the possibility further...

Hence, my question - I'm planning a visit to take a quick look around the city and surrounding area. Assuming I'm there for a week or so and have a rental car at my disposal, what should I see/where should I go that will give me a feel for the place?

For bonus points, can anyone recommend any books/websites, both for short visits and/or for ex-pats moving to the area?

Help me turn my bedroom into a sweet fort. It's my first time sleeping on a lofted bed, and every time I walk in my room I see the bare bones of a potential fort. I am already on a waiting list to get a slide that will attach at the ledge and extend to the floor, and my roommate has kindly agreed to drill a hole in the wall separating our bedrooms in order to thread a string for our tin-can phones.

So now I'm on to details. I never had a fort as a kid, and our neighborhood was equally bereft of tree houses. What do you remember about those spaces that you especially liked, and what can I do to recreate that in a tiny Brooklyn apartment? Any insights or details you can think of to make this feel authentic, or just look awesome? Unfortunately, I don't have a way to upload any pictures of my bedroom, but my loft is twin-sized and under a relatively high ceiling.
