Where can I hire a formal dress in Sydney, with in-person fitting?

Surprise! I'm going to a black tie event on Saturday night. I have nothing to wear and therefore need to hire a dress. Everything I can find on Google so far is an online order. I would prefer a brick and mortar building where I can try on someone's inventory of dresses; I've done this before in other countries so I know it's A Thing. Where can I do this in Sydney? My chest is a tank! Tanks need suit jackets too!

FashionPhillyFilter: I have had a borderline-apocalyptic time trying to find a suit/sports jacket that fits in Philadelphia. I am a tall-but-not-notably so (6'0") dude who is built like a [big football guy term here], but with a smaller waist & bottom half to mis-match my enormous breastplate/shoulders. (My friend says "you are an inverse triangle"). Attendants at the stores I have gone to have been completely flummoxed by my proportions, which end up with either the jacket not fitting over my chest or there being a puffy cloud of fabric on the bottom. It's at the point where I'm getting recommendations for $1895 (low estimate I was given???)+ tailor-made jackets as the only solution for my build, which I am trying to avoid based on my budget (doctoral student on stipend). Surely there are... some stores that have tailorable off-the-rack things that might fit? Any suggestions as to stores that have fashionable, comfortable clothing for larger-built gentleman, especially in distance of Philadelphia? [more inside]

“I’ve not” and “I’ll not” ~vs~ “I haven’t” and “I won’t” -- Why?

I’ve noticed that I’m increasingly reading “I’ve not” in place of “I haven’t” and “I’ll not” in place of “I won’t.” When I was growing up (the 70s), these expressions were exceedingly rare. I knew they existed, of course, but to me they seemed redolent of century-old books: “I’ll not brook such behavior in my classroom, Tom Sawyer!” “Fezziwig! I’ve not heard his voice since my youth.” But in the last 15 years or so, I've been seeing these phrasings more and more often in colloquial writing — other blogs, Amazon reviews, internet discussions, MeFi etc. I don’t seem to hear these forms spoken, which adds to their air of formality. "You can leave the suit at home."

I have a round two interview today for a business analyst position in the interactive division of a large international company. I've never been for an interview that included "It's OK to dress down" instructions, and don't want to come off as either stuffy or too laid back. I'm thinking about a v-neck sweater over a dress shirt, with no tie. Would I be wiser wearing a jacket instead? With a tie?

Plus-size ladies, where do you go to actually try on nice pants/suits?

I'm looking for suggestions for actual brick-and-mortar stores where I could try on a wide variety of size 16-18 suit separates or dressy-to-formal tops/pants combinations. [more inside]

Men's suits: timeless, classic, what styles are good?

I don't know a thing about menswear except that men sometimes wear it. My husband's one suit is finally done for, and he needs a new one by the end of the week. [He doesn't know much, either.] He wears a suit primarily for weddings and funerals, maybe once or twice a year. What style of suit will last him for years without becoming out-of-date? [more inside]

I need a little black dress!

Help me find a little black dress. I'm in my mid-20s, short (5'2"), and curvy (dress size 4-8, depending on much curvature they allow), and it should look good with black knee-high boots and 'hose. So I'm thinking maybe something that stops at mid-thigh. It should be something dressy enough for a NYE party and classy enough to wear to a work holiday party. Pure black preferred, but different textures and shapes are welcomed. I own a lot of fit & flare dresses, so I'm comfortable with that, or I can get a more sheath like dress...? It needs to be from somewhere (local to Seattle or online) where I can return for free (including shipping). Budget: $20 to $300 for the right dress.

Formal Christmas Attire

So I am looking for ideas as to what to wear to this year's company Christmas party. The theme is Naughty is Nice. I am not looking for anything too naughty, but more along the lines of something formal but outlandish. Any place that I could rent something for one night in the San Francisco area would be perfect. I have a couple of ideas, suit with a tophat/cane, maybe a leisure suit, anything that would turn heads. Oh yes, I am a guy and I am not too into the assless leather chaps/gag ball/leather thong.

What do I wear to my evening wedding?

I'm a Brit getting married in San Francisco in September (outdoors). My fiancee will have her wedding dress, of course, but what should I wear? I'm not a fan of the traditional American Tuxedo-look - I'm not going to a ball. Where I come from, it's the traditional morning suit/top hat, but the event will be after 5pm so technically that's out and we're back to black tie. [more inside]
