Self-improvement and forgetting

How do I incorporate the things I learn from self-improvement reading into my life? This is more than just a question about remembering what I learn from self-improvement books. I am looking for ways of making that knowledge stick, so that I can make good use of it later when I need it. [more inside]

Scenes about forgetting, then remembering again

There's a particular kind of movie scene I really like, where a character has forgotten their purpose (due to amnesia, magical fugue, etc -- not absent-mindedness), then remembers it and sets themselves back to the task at hand with a renewed sense of urgency. Please recommend me movies with scenes like this? Examples below the fold. [more inside]

Can you two just please introduce yourselves because I have no idea!

I've had this silly and embarrassing little problem for years and I'm noticing that it's getting worse. Sometimes, when I run into somebody I know or if I'm introducing somebody I know to somebody they don't know, I truly blank out on the name of the person I know. [more inside]

How do you get over a past lover - or should you?

Has anyone had the experience of not being able to forget a past lover (in a present relationship) and so you returned to the past lover, and you were right -- that was the place you were supposed to be? There is someone I cannot forget, three years after breaking up with him. [more inside]

Losing papers and numbers

I have a campus job delivering newspapers, and must keep track of how many were left over from last week as well. The problem has two facets: one, I sometimes forget how many I just picked up less than 5 seconds after picking it up. I normally do not have a problem with this, except with names. Two, I lose the sheets where I record the numbers about one out of every two weeks. [more inside]

How can I deliberately forget something?

If I see something I'd rather not remember (like a spoiler for a movie I plan on seeing, or an unsettling image), are there any tricks I can use to prevent myself from remembering it? And once I've remembered it, is there anything I can do to deliberately forget it, short of visiting Lacuna, Inc?
