Do me a favor here... make me cry. Or at least a little verlklempt. I would like to add to my collection of videos that get me a little choked up or emotional. I'm looking to get worked up, but not in in a "oh gosh that's so sad, now i'm sad" sense, rather the upswelling of hope and overwhelming goodness that, you know, catches in the throat or upper digestive tract.
To elucidate and reveal what sort of sap I am, videos of returning soldiers surprising their children, or dogs do this for me, as well as (loathe to admit it) will.i.am's obama video's Yes We Can and It's a New Day both ring that bell.
I am asking this on a day wherein Ican feel myself slipping into a sort of poverty of spirit, so please, help me find those emotional resonances that make me feel more human. And sniffly and salty.

Found a bunch of some really pretty, nicely shaped clear colored with rainbow streaks, wine bottles. Any ideas what they can be used for?

My signifigant other is on permanent disability. I just started college as a full-time student myself. I am going to jr college. Paid for tuition and books via Pell Grant, and using the remainder of loans plus s.o.'s disability payments to cover living expenses-- as you can imagine it's tight but we're making do so far. Significant other wants to get a BS in photography. Is Art institute of Pittsburgh right place? Online classes appeal very much due to flexibility, and that it means can take classes wherever there is an internet connection, so if treatments or hospital visits or they will work with schedule.

Said for art institute of pittsburgh, can use financial aid to pay for cost of school. they are billing 437 per course hour, more more than jr college. but s.o. sure can apply previous BA courses to core and just have to take photography courses. 437 seems really high but s.o. says that is actually typical cost for private university.

s.o. had fafsa done, is speaking to rep tomorrow. is making good choice to go thru them? if not, can recommend good online college for photography degree?

How can I go about writing a request letter to local companies asking for donations for an elementary school project? My sister has recently started volunteering at a newly created, Title I magnet school -- John Muir K-12. Her task is to approach local "outdoorsy" businesses like REI and Adventure 16 and ask for donations and sponsorships. Because writing is not her strength she asked me to help her compose the donation request letter to be presented to these businesses. I've never seen one of these request letters - I imagine it shouldn't be too needy and should state how donating will help the business? Since the school wants to emphasize hiking and nature and trails and whatever else John Muir was involved in, she is to request items that would help the children learn about or experience these things. What is the best way to go about wording the request letter?

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Have they changed the formula for Sierra Nevada Pale Ale without telling anyone? A week ago, I'm at the Liberties in San Francisco, and I ordered a Sierra, my favorite favorite favorite beer of all beers. The waitress brings me a pint and I returned it saying :" umm, you should check the keg, 'cause this isn't Sierra". I didn't sound as much like an asshole to her as I did just there.

Aaaaanyway, I got a bottle of Sierra this afternoon, (I'm in Colorado now) and lo: it's got the same not-quite-sierra-more-like-Fat-Tire lemony weirdness to it.

I like to think I'm pretty attuned to what I like about Sierra. Has anyone else noticed this? Has it happened before?

How can I help my coworkers create XML documents to store metadata?

Generating XML documents help? I work with the county health department, and have been asked to come up with a way to create, store and manipulate metadata for various datasets we store internally on a network drive. Basically I think the simplest thing to do is to create an xml file stored in the same directory with any dataset. Preferably I can do this with infopath 2003 or free software, and using the Dublin Core standard for metadata. I've seen the 5 year old answers on Dublin Core Metadata from this Ask, but I need to let my coworkers create the data first, and that mostly covers storage/database solutions. Looking through various DC list archives hasn't been helpful. I realize that having an xml file for each dataset may make it hard to actually search and manipulate the data, but at least we'd be storing it somewhere in a standard form.

We have Office 2003 on all the relevant machines, to the best of my knowledge, and I think Infopath 2003 should be able to create forms which create xml compliant with dublin core (either simple or qualified, preferably the later). It would be rather difficult to have our IT department roll out any sort of complex IT solution or have a server setup with the authority I have. I could however use some sort of database file stored on the network drive.

I'd really prefer to have forms or generate the XML programatically, rather then having them hand edit a template or something. The idea is to make storing the data as smooth as possible.

Does anybody have any suggestions for me or strong useful resources that you can point me too? I'm not exactly sure how to take the XML schemas for Dublin Core and create a compliant form from it.

I'm not married to Dublin Core if there is another standard or to infopath 2003 if there is a better program that won't cost anything.

I want to add my wife who has serious pre-existing conditions to my health insurance plan at work. How do we make sure her condition will be covered? My wife needs orthognathic surgery but her insurance (HMO) will only cover a portion of it under a doctor she does not trust and will not address all symptoms involved. I have a much better plan at my work, but have noticed that when adding someone to the plan, there is a waiting period of 6 months for anyone with pre-existing conditions before they will start to cover them.

My wife is in constant pain everyday and doesn't think she can wait any longer, nor do the doctors she would like to be treated by, as her condition gets worse everyday. My first question then, is there anything that can be done to shorten the waiting period?

If we must wait the 6 months before she can get the surgery, so be it. It's too costly to even attempt to pay it out of pocket right now, but we absolutely can't have her go without medication and physical therapy to help relieve the everyday pain. But on the new plan, would these treatments be considered part of the "pre existing" condition?
Is it possible for her to keep her current plan just for these things WHILE she is on the waiting period for my plan?

Also, in terms of other things that would not be covered due to the pre-existing mess, would these things also include consultations with surgeons? MRI's? any testing she would need for the eventual treatment she would receive after the 6 months is up?
Or are these "tests" going to be excluded as well even though they are just tests and not actual treatment?

Help me askme, you're my only hope.

I've got an interview for a marketing analytics position that involves SQL - how can i learn about SQL/practice? I know the basics concepts of SQL (i.e. Select, by, where, join, etc) - but nothing about the actual use - I've never used the program. I understand SQL is a database language. Is there a program most people use to run these databases and if so how is the data usually accessed? I have a few days to learn this stuff and become a decent user. What should I read? How should I practice?

They said they'd like me to work both with 'raw data' and 'through an interface'. What does this mean?

I'm pretty computer savvy, but mostly with more basic applications, including Office, SPSS, and a few others, but I've just never had to use SQL before. I am decent at data analysis so I hope I can make this transition easily.

Why can't I consume my coffee plant?

Why does my coffee plant say "For decoration only. Not for consumption"? A friend just gave me the sweetest, most thoughtful gift - a baby coffee plant! Just noticed this morning that the tag says "For decoration only. Not for consumption", which is a little bit of a let down because it would be so novel to some day harvest the cherries, process them, roast the beans, and brew coffee from it. (I mean, how can I not do this? I have to!)

Does it have to do with pesticides or chemicals that may be in the soil it's currently planted in? Is there something I can do to grow a food-safe version -- like perhaps harvest cherries from this tree, and start a new plant with them in organic soil?

Help me feed a crowd of people, adults and children, on a trip. Ideas? More inside. We have 16 adults and 35 kids (ages 8-17 years) going on a trip together. I need to put together dinner plans where we all bring things for our communal dinners. We have access to 3 smallish kitchens but with normal size fridge, stovetop and oven. Things to keep in mind: nothing too complicated in terms of time for preparation, appeal to variety of tastes (picky kids), easy to bring from home, not too expensive, no grilling (it's freezing there). In the past we have had: taco bar, ziti and salad, sub bar, lasagne. Looking for new ideas! Thanks.

Help an IT consultant write a business case for promotion. My company holds an annual review for all employees based on their level. I started my job as an IT consultant a few years ago straight out of college. I am one of about a dozen consultants in my office who I will be reviewed against for promotion, and roughly a fourth of us will make the cut. We don't all work on the same projects so our promotion is based on us writing a self assessment of our performance in more general terms, and I wanted to add to this by writing a business case about how if I am promoted, I will benefit our clients, company and co-workers. I am turning to the hive mind for suggestions about how to write a business case for promotion.

American working in Canada

What does an American who wants to look for work in Vancouver, Canada need to know? What steps are necessary and what's the best order to do them in? If you get a job, what is the usual way to handle questions like health care, American Social Security payments, currency you're paid in? Other questions I can't even imagine. (details below) My son-in-law is an architect with extraordinary computer skills. He has been working for a software company, sent around the country as a consultant to companies who purchase complex architectural software. He's just been laid off. He lives in Bellingham, Washington which is a 20 minute drive from the border. He'd like to stay in his (newly purchased) home, and Vancouver seems the best bet for having jobs and being within commuting distance. There seem to be jobs that would fit his skills, he has a great work history and excellent credit. But he knows nothing about the process of cross-border employment, and would rather not learn the hard way.

Any suggestions to make the process easier will be appreciated!

What is this strange buttoned-on loop on the inside of my coat?

What is the purpose of this weird detail (a button-on loop of some kind with wool on one side and velvet on the other) on the inside of my new coat? I just picked up a new winter coat and it has a weird interior detail which I've never seen before, and I can't seem to find reference to what it might be in any fashion dictionaries or bespoke sites, and the curiosity is starting to get to me.

As you can see in this crappy cameraphone photo, it is a buttoned-on loop of some kind, right next to the edge of the inside lining, and is basically positioned near enough to the belt line that I suppose it could be a belt loop, but I can't imagine what the possible use of belting your belt to your coat could be. The inward-facing side of the loop is velvet. Is it for securing my sidearm? I hope so. Anyway, please let me know what it is, if you know. Thanks!

Tell me the best way/site to follow election results as they occur from an iPhone? I'll be in a three hour film festival and would like to keep posted on election results. Yes, I'll pay proper attention to movie-going etiquette (it's a series of many shorts with breaks in between, and I also have an amazing jacket sleep technique) but I'd like a good site that keeps the coverage simple and fact based.

I love me some long MeFi threads, but they just don't scroll well on an iPhone...I'm looking for something more like a boxscore.

Stumped by VBA-ising an array formula in Excel

How to do a VBA version of the following array formula in Excel? The following array formula (entered with ctrl,shift,enter) will produce the string 'Bank statement'!H842, which is the name of a cell I would like to be able to manipulate via VBA: {="'Bank statement'!H"&MATCH(C1&D$39,'Bank statement'!A:A&'Bank statement'!C:C,0)} It creates a string out of the values in the cells C1 and D$39 and looks those up in an array made out of the A and C columns of the sheet 'Bank statement'.

Its function is to find the row of a payment from a certain payer on a certain day, and then return the address of the cell in column H of that row.

i.e. it will find the payment from Joe Bloggs on the 15/3/2008 for example, and return the address of the cell in column H on the row that payment appears.

This formula will put the address of that cell, which I'd like to use as a range variable in VBA.

I'm completely stumped by trying to make it work though. I've tried for a day or two to do it, asked every Excel VBA related usenet and Yahoo group and not gotten a solution. I'm more confident in MeFi though. :)

A macro I can run from a button click will suffice for now, but if I could have my every wish granted I'd also like to be able to make a pivot table hyperlink-clickable, so I could click on any entry in that pivot table (pivot table consists of payments arranged by date and payer) and navigate to that payment.

How can I get out of a listed house in order to sell it For Sale By Owner?

I have a rental house that I am selling. It has been listed with a Real Estate agent since Nov 07. Not one offer on it. Some people from my parent's church are interested in buying it, but they want to do it For Sale By Owner -no Real Estate Agents involved. My listing expires on Oct. 11. How long after the listing expires can I sell it on my own? Is there a grace period? Any ideas of how to cancel the listing beforehand? I don't want to lie, but I would rather sell to the church people for obvious reasons (more money for me, better deal for them, etc.). I am in GA.
