I'm visiting some dear friends who are barely scraping by in the South (US) with two kids and a third on the way. I'm plotting a covert op to Trader Joe's tomorrow to buy them a whole bunch of groceries before I leave. I'd welcome all ideas or suggestions on what would be most useful for them! details inside [more inside]
Back in the early 2000's, I went to a bakery on Martha's Vineyard and purchased a jar of Beach Plum jam and a tin of homemade shortbread. Fell in love with the combination. Is it possible to buy Beach Plum Jam on Long Island or in Manhattan? Also, where can find delicious shortbread? [more inside]

Okay, so I have a friend in Austria who looooves Ceasar salad dressing. (I used to smuggle it in my suitcase from America when I'd visit her.) As a surprise little "I'm thinking about you" gift, I've been thinking of mailing her a bottle or some salad dressing mix, but I just can't figure out how to do it at a reasonable price... German Amazon is asking for $28 to send a $5 bottle of Cardini's to Vienna. Anybody have any other suggestions? Thanks! :D

How does one do food shopping and eat healthily on a very constrained budget in Manhattan? I'm looking for resources: specific stores that have 'dented' food items, websites for good local deals, etc. [more inside]
There's a giant Korean supermarket not terribly far from where I live (the mega Hmart in Burlington). It's enormous--big enough to have small aisles dedicated to different Asian groceries--a Thai aisle, an Indian aisle, a Japanese aisle, etc. It's far more than I'd ever be able to explore on my own. What items available in a truly excellent Asian supermarket should I seek out? This is pretty much a pan-Asian free-for-all, so if you have a favorite Indonesian mustard, or an unforgettable Cambodian pickle, please share here. Bonus points for sous-vide-able items! [more inside]
I have a client that has a scooter food delivery service. What I need to do is build menus for each of the restaurants, have the user be able to add items to a cart and then get a total. The actual transaction will occur at the customers home upon delivery so there's no need to deal with payments online. I'd like to use something open source and I've been looking at X-cart but I'd like to consider as many options as possible. WP/WooCommerce doesn't work because it requires a payment gateway and real time transaction (as far as I can tell) I'd love some recommendations. Thanks.

How do I shop in a Korean grocery store while not actually knowing any Korean? Many of the items have little to no English on the labels, and with a limited budget, I'm not quite willing to spend any significant amount of money on something I may find inedible (either being a flavor I don't like, or a complete lack of knowledge of proper preparation). I just moved into an apartment two blocks from the Vermont/Wilshire stop, and would like to take full advantage of the Metro rail system - especially the Red Line. I'm originally from Pasadena, so I've already seen everything over there. I also have a car, but would like to avoid the urban gauntlet of LA's streets as much as possible.
