What are some gluten free shelf stable proteins and veggies?

We are looking for shelf-stable, packaged proteins and veggies that are gluten free to go in lunches. We know about GoPicnic already, but we'd like some more variety and real vegetables of some sort! Proteins are mostly easy (spreads, dips, cheeses, jerkies), but finding the individual packed shelf stable ones are tough. We have found no veggies that fit the bill at all- we were thinking freeze dried veggies, but that sounds unappetizing and looks really expensive (also not individually packaged).

Introduction to Culinary Studies - Portable Edition

Looking for lunch ideas to pack and take with me, when I go to college starting in January. So, in January, I'll be starting full time school again. Yay. However, this particular Community College has a dearth of lunch options - just a sad cafeteria, and nothing within easy walking distance that I know of. Boo. (North Seattle Community College, if familiar). And I need ideas. I won't have access to a refrigerator. I will have, in theory, access to a microwave - but it may break, and/or be in constant use by other students. So I'd probably need dishes that can be eaten safely at room temperature that are filling and tasty. I can cook, and am adventurous, so I'm willing to try lots of different things. [more inside]

He hates lunch.

My fiance hates lunch, and every day it is a "thing" for him to try to decide what to have for lunch. He doesn't want to have to bother with it any more. He said "I wish there was just some magic pill I could take that would keep me full and be healthy and make me not have to deal with lunch any more". So now we're thinking meal replacement bars so that he doesn't have to think about it any more. Suggestions? [more inside]

What to get for lunch at Target

The easiest place for me to get healthy food for lunch near my college campus is a Target with a grocery section. Keeping in mind that there is nowhere on campus for me to store any food, and that I already have enough to carry around in my backpack and so won't be taking multi-serving things out of the store with me (unless they are so light as to be not noticeable), what are some healthy single serving lunches I can make out of things I buy in Target's grocery section? I am not asking about things I can make at home and bring with me*; I'm talking about things I can get at Target and eat at the table in the front of the store, or take to a microwave I have access to on campus. What do you bring to work for lunch?

I usually eat lunch at the cafeteria at work. While the meals are tasty and cheap ($6-$8), I'm beginning to notice that an alarming proportion of my monthly budget is being spent on lunch. My schedule is often busy and unpredictable, which makes it difficult to motivate myself to prepare meals at home before/after work. What are some cheap, no-fuss, and delicious meals that I can bring to work? [more inside]

Kid-friendly restaurants in Williamsburg Brooklyn?

So some friends of mine, who have a two-year-old, are coming to visit me this weekend in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I don't have kids, but I know there are a lot of kids in the neighborhood, so I know there has to be some kid-friendly dining options. I only moved in to the neighborhood about a month ago, so I have not had time to explore. Ideally I'd like to find a bunch of kid-friendly restaurants in the neighborhood and send the kid's mom a list of them so that she can pick one out. Any recommendations?

When re-heating your food is not an option

I've just started a new job that doesn't have a microwave (or an oven) in the kitchen, which is a big downer for me as I've always taken leftovers or other easily heated food for work lunches (and there isn't any other heating facilities close by that I can use). The thought of only being able to take cold salads or plain sandwiches for lunch isn't very appealing as I quite enjoy tucking into a spaghetti bolognaise or chicken schnitzel at lunchtime, and with winter approaching here in the southern hemisphere I live off hot, chunky soups during those months. Can anyone suggest any filling foods I can take for my lunch that don't need to be hot/warm to be delicious? Bonus points if they aren't too expensive or difficult to make in addition to dinner of a night.

I can't find liverwurst anymore!

Where can I score some old fashioned liverwurst in the Pacific Northwest? There always used to be rolls of liverwurst next to the lunch meats, but no more. And Amazon no longer carries Mother Goose Liverwurst; there's a "unknown when again available" note. Mail order is fine, if it's a reliable source. (And I really don't want to make it myself; I just want to smear it on bread.)

Soft, cold brownbag meals!

Because of a bus strike, I'm going to be on campus much, much longer than usual every day, and will have no access to any kitchens, nor will I be able to go home. I'm going to need multiple cold (microwave access is iffy) meals for each day, or many snacks. My jaw still hurts from surgery and chewing hard or large things is impossible. Ex.: most sandwiches, aside from the hated pb&j, are too tall, most granola bars are too hard. Any suggestions?
