Help me plan a food tour of Chicago's south side by bicycle. I'd like to make a little loop starting and ending in Woodlawn, covering < 50 mi and stopping several times to eat small, interesting things. Can you suggest some good destinations and routes?
Note that we'll be five sweaty college kids in funny clothes, with wallets to match, so err on the side of "hole in the wall."

Chicago caterer? Nope,
not for a wedding. Just a cocktail party not held at home. I've tried looking through the google (and reading the wedding boards anyway), but seriously, it's way too much information with no quality filter. Have you hired a local (to Chicago) caterer for a small event in the last year or so that you would recommend?

What are some good Chicago-area catering options for a group of 10 people? We are hosting a small group of relatives at our house for the weekend in May, and we want to have some classic Chicago dishes for people to eat. But, we also don't want to spend the whole weekend in the kitchen working on deep dish pizza, either. So, we're looking for suggestions on places to check out that we can bring food home for about 10 people. So far, we're going to check out Portillo's and Jewel for Italian beef, but I'm open to other options for the beef and other Chicago specialties. (Actually, we live in Naperville, but I'm willing to go pretty much anywhere in the area if it is worth it.)

A 2009 question by the same title (http://ask.metafilter.com/141735/Chicago-Restaurants-for-Cheap-Locavores) with loads of good advice, but 2 years in the restaurant world can be a long time and it is not so critical to be in that 30-40$ range (though 195 before tax and tip is a stretch). Will be there for three nights in May. Any places that speak to the intersection of community and food would be of interest as well as those with wow factor for food (ambiance not so important)
will be at hyatt regency

My brother is back in Chicago and looking for a job, preferably in the culinary world. But he's also looking to move away from retail and restaurant work, and is both unsure what's out there and wondering what other kinds of education he could do to improve his future prospects. Any suggestions?

At a Walmart in Missouri, of all places, I found some pre-packaged, refrigerated tortillas that were very, very thin pieces of uncooked dough stacked together. You just peeled one off, put it in a pan to quickly cook it, and ended up with a delicious, home-made-tasting flour tortilla. Where can I find these in Chicago?

Where do you eat dosa in Chicago? The internet offers only two places on Devon (Mysore Woodlands and Udupi Palace). I've got no problems going to Devon (and will check these places out
although I suspect one of them was the place we went to get dosa that did not have them), but are these really the only two places in Chicago that serve dosa?

I'm going to CHICAGO in mid-August. I'll be there strictly for entertainment purposes only, so anything is possible. I've never been to Chicago (which is why I'm going) and would love to hear what some of you think are the best things to do, the best places to visit, and the best places to eat. What are the best places to have a beer(s) and see a band? Can I safely rely on public transportation or should I rent a car? How hard is it to get Cubs tickets (they have a home series against the Dodgers that week). Thanks!
