magic realism in film (south america)

I am trying to find a South American or Latin American film that we watched when I was in college in the 80s. It was described by the professor as being an example of "magic realism" in film. The scene I remember was of an orchard with trees in bloom and the flowers all turned into butterflies. It was NOT an animated film. Any help greatly appreciated!

Flower House

Last spring or summer I heard a spot on NPR about a couple in Madison, WI who plant thousands of flower bulbs in their backyard every year. It became a bit of an attraction in the neighborhood as they allowed people to wander around the yard to see the flowers. Does anyone know where this house is or can someone point me to the radio spot?

Movie with a flower-through-concrete timelapse?

I'm trying to remember a film released within the last 10 years, most likely from the early 2000's. The last shot of the movie is a timelapse shot of a flower blossoming or possibly sprouting up through concrete. It's likely a Todd Haynes film or a Charlie Kauffman script or something along those lines. (Pointing me toward any other movies with time-lapse shots of flowers blossoming would also be helpful.) Picking the right flowers

My recently widowed stepmother just returned home after a long hospital stay for cancer treatment; the prognosis looks good, thankfully. I want to send her flowers for her birthday, but I know more about quantum physics than I do about flowers, and I was a liberal arts major, if you follow my meaning. I don't know of any floral preferences on her behalf, and can't really ask now. So... are there any specific types that are more appropriate than others?

Extra special Mother's day

I have an amazing, incredible mother. Really, she's awesome. This will be the first mother's day that I have the fiscal resources to show her, rather than just tell her, how much I love her. I'll be getting her flowers, that much is sure. In addition to that, I'd like to do something meaningful. My (boring) idea was make a donation to a cause in her honor. But you have more creative, but still meaningful ideas, right? :)
