I'm trying to get my five year old step son interested in gardening. We made a special flower bed for him and I to grow plants in together and he is really excited to grow "rainbow blossoms" in it. Help me make this as rewarding for him as possible!

I need a fairly cheap, hard to kill, awfully pretty plant that comes in a 6-pack or more of bedding plants. And would be happy in a small pot.

I saw some potted flowers on someone's front gate and I would like to know what they are. They were bright pink, shaped like impatiens, but the leaves were a uniform and solid dark maroon/purple. They were sort of the same color as maple leaves before they turn in the fall. Unfortunately, I could not get a picture of the plant, and I have been looking at images of impatiens and other flowers all night with no luck. Green thumbs of AskMe, do you have any ideas?

What flower / plant is
this? The photo lightens the flowers; in real life they are dark, kind of electric cobalt.

Please help me identify the plants - flowers, weeds, veggies, herbs - in the garden of the house we just bought. There are several plants that I don't recognize, so I'd really appreciate any clues you might have!

A flower question in three parts: 1) what are these flowers:
a1;
a2;
b1;
b2?
(I included versions w/my hand to show scale, since I have a lot of trouble figuring that with most internet pix) 2) what are other potted flowering plants that will do as well as these in my climate/situation? 3) Help me help myself? Suggestions for plant/flower identification sites.

I'd like to get a small-to-medium-sized potted plant to liven up my dreary work cubicle. It won't receive any sunlight at all and will be exposed to 24 hours a day of pinkish fluorescent lighting and the glare of several computers and TV screens. The best it can hope for is fresh water and fertilizer/nutrient supplements as needed. Other than those boring and ubiquitous bamboo sticks, what else is there? Bonus points if it flowers or smells nice.

MeFi botanists:
These are buebells, right, blooming now until June?
(Yes, that IS my cat Widget on the scanner trying to eat them.) But what are
these, fallen from a tree or plant on the NE Ohio shore of Lake Erie?
(Pic is aprox 200%
actual size.) Does anyone else have any plants you need to identify? Are there any good books or online flora resources you recommend that allow a person to maybe search by, say, "flowers-blue" and then narrow the search, perusing images? Thanks.
