Ascetic MP3 Player

ExerciseBoredomFilter: Need a no-frills, old, cheap MP3 player that need store no more than one podcast at a time. The boredom during exercise is turning me off from doing it. I also have a lot of podcasts that I'm not making progress on. I figure I should combine the two activities.

I have no interest in MP3 players for general use, but I think I'm willing to bite the bullet if I can have a cheap one to use for just this activity, if it meets the following specifications.

* Detected by Linux, and mounts simply as a drive in /dev/sda or /dev/usb, with no bullshit software necessary for file transfer.
* sub-$40
* No ergomonics/interface stupidity. I want to have one podcast, at most two, and just be able to launch it without navigating into a silly tree or with playlists and such. (e.g., hit play and it will start from the first track - which should not be an issue if there's only one track on there)
* no eBay
* not the size of a brick

The following are not dealbreakers, but might be nice:
* plays ogg files
* FM tuner for NPR
* internally powered/chargeable (like a flash drive)

Most of the podcasts are an hour long anyway, so even two will probably be excessive. The less storage space, the better - if there is some solid, low-capacity device (128mb?) from a reputable maker that has since been obsoleted, and can be had for a song, that would be great. I have no need for new hardware. SD card type is also fine.

Flash Player and Safari aren't playing together?

Flash Player 9 doesn't work in Safari, but does work on Firefox on an Intel Mac. Help! This is Safari 3.1.4 and Firefox 3.0.1 on a MacBook running 10.4.11. With Safari, when I load any YouTube video, nothing happens-there's just a blank spot on the page where the video should be. It wasn't too long ago that Flash content was working in Safari, but I can't say with much precision since my girlfriend mainly uses this computer. With Firefox, Flash content seems to work perfectly. A combination of common sense, Adobe support forums, and Google has led me to try already, in every permutation and order:

-Deleting and reinstalling Safari
-Reinstallng Flash 9
-Uninstalling Flash 9 via the Adobe supplied uninstaller
-Repairing the disk permissions with Disk Utility

I'm out of ideas. Can anyone help?

#@$%!!! Flash!!

Annoyingly specific question about a failed Flash installation on a Mac: 1. Some website told me to update flash. In retrospect, I think I already had version 9, but I went to the Adobe sight and downloaded the installer for power PC Macs anyway.
2. The installer opens fine and then gets to "Items remaining to be installed: 4" and just stops. Nothing happens from there even if left all night.
3. So I go download the UNinstaller. Downloads fine, but when I open it, my computer freezes - every time.
4. Have tried restarting computer several times.
5. Opened Terminal and put in:
cd "/Volumes/Adobe Flash Player 9/Install Flash Player 9 UB/Contents/MacOS"
It says: No such file or directory

sudo "./Install Flash Player 9 UB"
It says: command not found

6: For the hell of it, I also used Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions.

Computer Specs: iBook G4, Power PC, OS 10.4.8. I mostly use Firefox 2 but also have Safari and Explorer.

Flash does not work at all on my computer now, which is a problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I also welcome you to tell me a better forum for this question! Thank you! !!

Die, Flash Player 7! DIE!!

How can I uninstall Flash Player 7? I can uninstall players 8-9 with the Adobe uninstaller, but I can't find any damn way to blow away 7 (Flash Player 7.0, r19), which has now become my default player for standalone SWFs. I used to be able to right click on a SWF and choose one of several installed players, but my only option now is 7, even though I've deleted and reinstalled version 9 a couple of times.

Audio problems with mac os x

How do I get Imbedded Flash audio/video to work again on my computer running mac os x (10.4.7)? Recently I have been unable to play videos on Youtube and google video as well as imbedded audio such as that in xxlmag.com's audio section (I tried with both firefox and safari). Youtube videos will just display "loading" and then never load. In addition, videos in quicktime will play but without sound, although if I play them in VLC they work. All other audio such as itunes still works. I tried reinstalling flash player and quicktime but the problem won't go away. What can I do to fix this?

I can't install Flash Player 7 in Mac OS X (10.3.7).

I can't install Flash Player 7 in Mac OS X (10.3.7). The problem must have something to do with my account, as I created a brand new account and could download and install there with no problem. [+] I have been thinking that Firefox (particularly an old, and possibly not fully uninstalled Flashblock extension) is the problem, but I could be barking up the wrong tree--I trashed all the Mozilla and Firefox files I could find in ~/Library and ~/Library/Application Support, with no more luck. And when I run the standalone installer, it won't install in any of my browsers (Firefox 1.0 (my default), Safari, IE, or Opera).

On the one hand, Flash isn't that big a deal to me (I was blocking it before, after all). On the other hand, this is driving me nuts!

Actionscript issue: Flash 6 vs. Flash 7

Flash Actionscript issue: I have a flash menu, with a series of links dynamically assigned using
item.onRelease = function(link) {getURL(this.link);};
They work fine in flashplayer 7, but not at all in flashplayer 6. [a lot m.i.] It is a modular menu maker, in which each menu topic is loaded like so:

onClipEvent (load) {
var title = "CULTURA GRÁFICA ";
var items = new Array("Reseña Histórica ", "La imprenta en Chile y América Latina ", "¿Cómo nace un impreso?", "Nuevas tecnologías", "Diccionario Morgan", "Colaboración Permanente");
_root.populate(this, title, items);
}

where 'title' is the section text and each element of 'items' is a sub-section. and the 'populate' funtion includes the following:

item.link = title.split(" ")[0]+i+".htm";
item.onRelease = function(link) {getURL(this.link);};

which creates a URL of the form title0.htm, title1.htm, etc.

In the test file, mouse over "Acerca de Morgan" and click on "Resena" or "Ubicacion / Contactenos". They should both open a different page.

This works alright in Flashplayer 7, not at all in 6. I assume there's some issue with getURL, but have not been able to figure out why or how to fix it. Posted on various newsgropus, support sites, searched google, etc., to no avail.
The source is here. Code here, with the getURL part marked.
