Please help me avoid further injuring myself

YANMD - but my doctor thinks I may have a slipped disc. If you are active, into fitness, running, strength training, etc, how do you manage the associated aches and pains and avoid aggravating things? What can I do now to (hopefully) nip this in the bud, but still enjoy exercise? [more inside]

Help me find a health & weight-loss coach online

I am a woman in my late 30s and I have quite a bit of weight to lose. I am ready to really make a commitment to some changes, but as an extremely busy professional and new mother I don't feel like I can do this alone. I am looking for an online health/weight-loss coach who will help me make incremental changes and stick to them over the course of a year to lose about 50 pounds. I'm willing to pay generously for this. Where should I look? How do I find this? [more inside]

Suggestions for Coping after major surgery: meds, etc

I'll be having major surgery next month. The doctors say I will be on opioid painkillers for 2-4 weeks. I'm worried they will give me digestive problems, as I have a sensitive stomach. My other issue is staying in shape while recovering. It has taken me a year to get to my current fitness level. Doctor says no workouts besides walking and physical therapy for 1-2 months. I'm very concerned I will lose the muscle I have worked hard for, and gain fat. Any advice on either issue?

psychologically and physically dealing with sudden weight gain?

I don't recognize myself in the mirror and feel like my body isn't even mine anymore, but I know losing this weight is going to be incredibly difficult. Can you help me find a way forward from here? Question following blood work

I (30, male) just got the results from routine blood work. My testosterone is pretty low (377 ng/dL on a reference range of 348-1197). I also had lab work done 6 months ago that showed a similar result. My vitamin d levels also seem lower than I'd expect given that I supplement daily. I'd like to naturally raise my testosterone levels--but also am unsure whether this is something I should even be considering. [more inside]

What happens when you quit exercising, or 'detrain'?

I have been a daily exerciser (30-90 minutes on average, mixed cardio/strength/yoga) for a decade. I'm currently recovering from a month-long exercise rut/detraining - in other words, very little exercise due to a number of issues I'm already working to overcome - and am now curious: other than the infamous muscle loss and fat gain, what other major physiological changes start to take place after a few weeks without regular exercise? What does my body do with the water I drink?

What happens to the drinking water I swallow? All I know is that it goes down my throat to my stomach, and then my body does its thing. Can you go into greater detail for me? For example: What positive effects does the water I drink have on my mouth, my throat, my stomach and other parts of my body? How does the stomach process the water? Where does the water go after my stomach? How does what's in the water get from my stomach to the necessary parts of my body? What's in water that my body needs? What parts of my body benefit the most from the water I drink? Feel free to answer other relevant questions that I've overlooked.

What kind of doctor for the whole body?

For the past few years I have been giving myself tendon injuries in quite a few of my joints... elbow's, knee's, and achilles mostly. I'm been slowly becoming more active for several years now, following an achilles injury that didn't quite heal up for 4 or 5 years. In my late 30's... I know, I'm shedding quite a bit of my invincibility at a steady rate now. As I said, I keep hurting myself. Mostly when I ramp-up the rigor, or try something slightly different at the gym. I have a pretty long and gentle warm-up and stretching routine, I don't think I really go for an increase too quickly, and only work out every other day or so... but various tendons disagree, at different times, and for different reasons. Based on the frequency and degree of pain/discomfort/etc, and how careful I am about not doing too much too quickly, I think frequency of injuries are out of the norm. Here's the nut of what I really want to know: What’s the best kind of doctor (already tried my GP) to see about this? It's hampering some of my hobbies and reasonable ambitions quite a lot, so I want to start finding more aggressive help/tests/advise. Who can help from a whole body perspective? Yes to yoga, and learning all kinds of stretches. Looking for more than a PT at this point. Thanks all!
