Cycling, Center of Gravity?

Three years ago, I inherited a solid Biachi road bike from my dad. I'm pretty into it now. I usually bike 50 - 100 miles on the weekends, but as that number has crept up, I've run into some some fit issues. Maybe you can help me out with some conceptual stuff. [more inside]

Seductive pants for male objectification?

I have lost ALOT of weight, and am on track to keep it off. I have a wife who has admitted she really enjoys vintage pics of guys in pants that showcase "the bulge", and she believes I now qualify. I have the butt and legs on my new "skinny pants" appropriately snug for her taste, but the fronts are disappointingly vague. Is this something I have to hunt down vintage jeans for, or ask a tailor for? Or is my endomorph body type, no matter how lean, cursed for flattened-fly jeans?

Possible new career: clinical psychology? What do I need to know?

I currently have a career completely unrelated to clinical psychology, although it seems like a career path I'd like to investigate at the very least for multiple reasons. I'm interested in psychotherapy in particular. For people who work in the field, do you have anything to share about your line of work that isn't immediately obvious to outsiders? And what sort of person is best suited for this career? My personal interests are listed after the jump. [more inside]

Who are some extremely fit and rich people? (non professional athletes)

Who are some people in this world who are rich, and extremely fit? Preferably net worth more than 100 million, and is also an elite level athlete(sub 3:00 marathon or approximate equivalent in any sport). Oprah's 4:29 marathon isn't good enough. Also they can have a little less money if they're super duper fit, or a little less fitness if they're super duper rich.

Fit bit...body media arm band or other option?

I would like to get an idea of how many calories I burn in a single day. I'm also interested in being able to log my food intake using a database. I do not want to have to sync with my computer daily, but do want to use my smartphone. I am looking to spend $150 or less. I am willing to wear the monitor on my wrist or arm. I do have a large hand so any bracelets would need to be a strap with closure. Please tell me which monitors you like and don't like about the one you use. What does the hive recommend?

How do I fit a common parameter between two sets of equations?

I have two observables that I'm measuring, x and y. Let's say both are functions of time t: x = f(t) and y = g(t). Given several measurements [(x,y) at (t1, t2, t3...)], I want to fit for the parameters of f() and g(). What's the right way to do this when f() and g() have a parameter in common? [more inside]

Will the Prius C "fit" my needs?

I've driven a 2008 Honda Fit Sport for the last 5 years, right up until it got totaled in a collision last week. One of my top choices on paper is the 2013 Toyota Prius C 2, and another is the 2013 Fit Sport. I'll be test driving a Prius C tomorrow, but in the meantime I want to hear from anyone who has experience with both cars. One specific question is: How roomy is the back seat in the Prius C as compared to the fit? [more inside]

How to display 300+ GPX cycling routes over a Google Maps base layer

GPX Visualization on Google Maps: I have 300+ GPX files of bike rides that I'd like to be able to link to somehow over a Google Maps base layer, visually approximating this. This is related to my previous AskMe about cycling every road in a town; I need to visualize what roads I have/haven't ridden, and link that progress to a blog. Would like it to be as low-weight as possible; the 300 (uncompressed) GPX files amount to 100+mb currently (route+track+waypoints) and is only getting larger -- vanilla GMaps doesn't play nice with that many files. Much more information inside... [more inside]

Where can I find high-waisted boy's pants?

My kiddo, like his dad, has a pants problem. Specifically, while his legs are only slightly longer than normal, he is built in such a way that regular pants don't make it far enough up his butt. Basically, he needs pants that are longer in the crotch-to-waistline area and can pull up higher. Most boy pants don't have a lot of room for that. We end up with either plumber crack or uncomfortably hitched pants. [more inside]

Women vs. the clothing industry: narrow shoulder edition

I have a recurring problem with my clothes that's driving me crazy. I have narrow shoulders and a small ribcage (think 30A bra size), and almost all my knit shirts have this problem where the shoulder seam winds up sliding forward over the course of the day. Within a few hours, the seam is 1-2 inches down the front of my shoulder instead of at the top, and my bra is in danger of showing. I tend to wear drapey styles (and, right now, nursing shirts). Is this fixable? Am I just buying the wrong clothes? Please help!

how to get pants to fit properly?

Almost every pair of pants I've ever worn has had the same problems, except one pair I found in a thrift shop a couple of years ago. I'm starting to wonder whether my proportions are just outside the range served by most stores: should I be shopping at some sort of specialty store for the misshapen? I'll give my measurements and describe my fit problems inside. I'd appreciate any advice on how exactly I'm deviating from manufacturers' expectations and what I can do to wear normal clothes. Minor alterations are within my budget; made-to-measure and bespoke are not. [more inside]

A rodent made a hole in air filter box (Honda Fit)

I have 2009 Honda Fit. A rodent made a nest in the engine air filter and chewed a small hole in the bottom of the air filter box. As the hole is in the bottom of the box (1/2" across) any air coming into the box will still go thru the filter before entering the engine. Is leaving the hole open going to cause any issues? The 'good employee/bad fit' conversation. A good or bad idea?

I realize I may have to fire a member of my team after about 3 years. This is one of the first times that I truly think that this is a 'good employee/bad fit' situation, but I'm wavering between having and not having that part of the conversation. So here's the question: Would you want this to be a conversation you had with your boss? If so, what would you want to hear? What would you not want to hear? When would you want to hear it? Both actual experiences and never-happened-but-here's-what-I-think thoughts appreciated. [more inside]

Help me not ruin my shoes so fast!

My favorite pair of shoes in the entire world, this pair that there only seems to be one of in existence, are just a smidge too narrow. They're 11D, and feet would fit best in an 11E. That smidge is giving me one mean callous, but more importantly the widest part of my foot, tipped with that callous, has already worn through the leather lining and might have burst through the calfskin outer if I hadn't caught it in time. What can I do to not ruin these beautiful, expensive shoes any further? [more inside]

Which brands carry decent non iron slim fit dress shirts for Men (size -14.5 - 32/33)?

Which brands carry decent non iron slim fit dress shirts for Men (size -14.5 - 32/33)? I have almost bought every single one I like at Brooks Brothers. Their fit is good but I am looking to shop from another brand so that I have more choice. Also I would prefer to go with a brand that has a good online store (hate going to the mall). Please note it has to be non iron. I am okay with BB prices but wouldn't mind learning about more reasonable options - Thanks!

Replacing the frame on a 54cm Cannondale Six13 Feminine

Earlier this year I bought my wife a used 54cm Cannondale Six13 Feminine 3 Compact via Craigslist. It was in mint condition and I basically bought for a small fraction of the retail price - the lady who was selling it got it as a gift from her ex-boyfriend and just wanted to get rid of it. Trying them out, eg. on a 12km walk at the weekend, they're quite tight across the toes.
