Need a good place to watch the NYC 4th of july fireworks show from. Being a native new yorker I should really know the answer to this question but its been such a long time since Ive done it properly that I need an inside tip from other new yorkers. Where's a great place to watch the 4th of july fireworks show on the east river? Last year I tried 34th street in manhattan which turned out to be a bad idea. Crowded as hell, not such a great view. I think unless you know someone who has rooftop access, most places in the city suck. I'm thinking Long Island City would be a good bet though. We're prepared to show up early.. that long pier that juts out from those new high-rise buildings in LIC would be perfect.. but i'm worried its too good to be true...does anyone know whether or not the police restrict access to it? Any other recomendations? How early should I show up? Thanks!

I offered to help a professional photographer friend make his web site, but I don't normally do it like THIS: He is a Photoshop wizard and has created how he wants his pages to look using that. He gave me a CD full of pages as TIFs. Is there a quick/easy way to make sites from TIFs using ImageReady or Fireworks? Pointers, links, tutorials, ect. GREATLY appreciated. How easy is it to get a entry level job as a pyrotechnician? I ran into this guy at the local computer surplus store and we got to talking about his hat. It turns out that he works for a fireworks display company. One of the things he said was that it was relatively easy to get hired as a helper at this company after taking one of their introductory seminars. This caught my interest and also pinged my scam detector. Going online I notice that most firework companies seem to run introductory seminars. I'm guessing that these courses are a nice revenue source for pyrotechnics companies. Has anyone taken any of these courses? If so, did you actually get to work on displays afterward? Was the course fun enough to be worth doing just for itself?

Macromedia Fireworks is one of my favorite tools, without peer (IMHO) when it comes to web design. But it recently stopped doing something I'd ranked among one of my favorite features. It used to be that when I clicked on a color-picking box, I could use the dropper tool to suck up colors outside of the application window, which is rather handy for quick color grab. Last week, it stopped doing this. How can I get this feature back?
