Firefox and sometimes IE opens random websites on its own , in new windows.
I ran AVG scan and Anti Spyware as well as the Rootkit module. But even when it says my system is clean, the new windows come up in Firefox, about every two minutes. I noticed that Firefox doesn't even need to be running at first for this to occur.
AVG resident shield does find sometimes a Trojan virus in some random dll (just popped up again, it's called Trojan Vundo) and I press heal or move to vault, but that didn't fix the problem. I also ran hikackthis and tried to delete whatever I deemed unnecessary or suspect from the registry, also deleting the associated files on the hard drive.
But to no avail. My system is windows XP. Any other good free programs I can try to clean up my system? What about good cheap payware? AVG has been good until now but obviously it cannot cope with this new threat even in its most up-to-date form.

I'm using Firefox version 3.0.4, but a website I need to use says it can only accommodate Firefox version 2.0. Is there a simple way to do this? Can I just click a button somewhere to temporarily use an earlier version? I'm not going to replace my current version with an outdated version, and I will need to use this website into the foreseeable future.

Why is text in Firefox so damn ugly and is there anything, from a design perspective, that I can do about it? (Okay, text in FF may not be ugly, exactly, but it doesn't compare to IE, Opera, or Safari.)
I'm making a website for a friend, and he's complained that in FF the text isn't 'pretty'. Since FF is all I use, it looks great to me - but damn if he isn't right that the copy looks sharper./smoother in other browsers.
Whassup with that?

If I leave a firefox window open for a long time (all day, for instance) an explorer window will pop up telling me my computer is low on memory and that I need to close firefox. When I open task manager it's consuming hundreds of MBs of memory. When I close it and reopen it, it's back down to about 75 MBs. I thought they had fixed memory leaks in a previous version. Is there any way to avoid this? (I've got 2GB RAM)

I'm using Firefox 3. I'm getting popup ads when I click on text (non ads), like at Salon.com.
For example, while reading:
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/10/23/campaign_myths/
If I click on the text, there'll be a popup ad. I have popups turned off in Firefox, but that isn't working for this particular case.
Any help?

Both latest IE and Firefox are hanging. I get the following two errors in Event Viewer Application Log:
1. Application Hang
Hanging application firefox.exe, version 1.9.0.3188, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
2. Fault bucket 943649184.
I've run chkdsk...defrag...Dell diagnostics on memory and system. Nothing is jumping out. I've even run Ccleaner, nothing fixes this issue.
My google-fu is failing me...
Any ideas?

i'm looking for a firefox extension that, when i highlight an in-text link (ex: http://www.google.com - one that is not hyper-linked) and drag it to the side, the link opens in a new tab. i don't want to have to drag it to the tab bar or a new tab button. i used to have an extension that allowed me to do this several versions of firefox ago, but i just can't seem to find it anymore. any thoughts?

I'm currently traveling in Germany (I live in the US) and would like to know how I can force my browser (firefox) to *not* display localized versions of websites like google or myspace. My main issue is with google. I have to keep going to google.com and selecting "Google.com in English" to be able to type things into the search bar in firefox without getting German websites. Is there some sort of about:config option, greasemonkey script or something I can use to make sure sites don't redirect to their localized version?
