I have firefox (3.6.8) running with 20-30 tabs open, and sometimes when I close it, I fail to realize there is one small pop-up window running as well. The result is whenever I restart firefox, only the pop-up window is restored, and not the window with 30 tabs. Searching through my history works ok to retrieve some tabs, but some tabs were opened weeks ago, and I don't remember all of the tabs I had open. Is there any way to restore all of those missing tabs?

How do I get my browser(s) to stop back tracking? When I use both Firefox and Chrome on my office computer, the browser will automatically flip back to the previous page (as if I hit the "back" button) after about 30 seconds. It will actually keep doing it until it gets back to the first page I opened in the browser. It doesn't happen with all web pages (Gmail and Metafilter seem fine), but it's particularly a problem with media sites (e.g. local newspapers, the Atlantic, Good Magazine). I mostly get around it by holding 'ctrl' when I click a link so it opens in a new tab and can't back track. But it's a pain in the butt. Is there a way to stop this?

What is wrong with Firefox? When I use it, I can't favorite in MetaFilter, look at Yahoo! inbox except in old Classic mode, see any of my gadgets on igoogle, or even tweet in Twitter. Why does every update make it more dysfunctional, and how do I fix these specific problems?

I can't get Unicode character 0CAO -- which is a part of a popular emoticon-based meme -- to correctly display in Firefox, despite, as far as I can tell, having the necessary fonts installed on the system. A picture speaks a thousand words, so: These are my Firefox font settings. This is how this page looks in Firefox. This is how it looks in Safari. This page suggested I needed Arial Unicode MS (which appears to already be part of the Mac OS X operating system?). I also installed a Kannada font from here. No go. Any ideas? It's not so much that I really love the meme; moreso that I really detest seeing those Unicode boxes pop up everywhere on God's green Earth when the character fails to display in Firefox.

Is there any program/script that can control all User Dictionaries on a machine? You know, when you're typing MetaFilter, and FF tells you it's spelled wrong. You can right-click, and "Add to Dictionary". No sweat. But what about all the other programs I have (Evernote, Thunderbird, Lotus Notes, Excel, Word, etc, etc, etc.). I'm looking for the One User Dictionary To Rule Them All. [more inside]

Using Firefox 3.6.3, Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. I have noticed over the past several days an error that makes reference to a script that is failing to run. I'm not sure how to replicate the error, but it essentially freezes Firefox, and I have to go into Windows Task Manager and kill firefox.exe and re-open it. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact wording of the error message. [more inside]
On Firefox, youtube only gives me the message "An error has occurred, please try again later". [more inside]
I find that I am consistently misspelling a certain proper name when sending mail to a friend who bears that name. I need a way to force the spell check built in to Firefox to flag the improper spelling. This is the exact opposite of the Firefox personal dictionary, which lets you prevent the spell check from flagging uncommon words you use that you know are spelled correctly. I've Googled extensively, and cannot find a solution. Can anyone provide an answer? I am running Firefox 3.5.9 on Ubuntu Linux 9.10 (Karmic Koala).
Occasionally when opening pages that have the Facebook "Like" sidebar box thing (usually Wired or ThereIFixedIt), I get a pop-up that looks like the sidebar (like this--pictures and names blurred to protect random strangers). The address for this pop-up is usually in the form http://www.connect.facebook.com/widgets/fan.php?api_key=... I'm using Firefox with about a million extensions, none of which specifically apply to Facebook, Wired, etc. I have pop-ups disabled and neither Facebook nor any of the sites I'm getting the pop-up from have any exceptions in my pop-up preferences. I want to never see that pop-up again, what do I need to do to make this happen?
Is there a Firefox extension that will let you hover over keywords on the page and have it show a quick summary from wikipedia?
Is there a Firefox extension that will let you hover over keywords on the page and have it show a quick summary from wikipedia? I'm using a Firefox Extension from evri.com that does this, but it also comes with an ugly toolbar. If you hide the toolbar, the functionality goes away, but I really like it. (Example.) Is there anything like this? That maybe does it better? Most importantly is it bringing this data in dynamically without me having to spawn a new window or leave the page.

Mac users: Can somebody please tell me how to set up a keyboard shortcut or script that allows me to toggle between U.S. keyboard and International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) keyboard layouts? I switch these on and off a LOT when I'm using my iMac and Macbook, but am tired of constantly going up to the little flag dropdown menu in the Finder (which I have to do repeatedly as I switch from program to program, since the drop-down window change doesn't seem to apply globally, but rather only within the current program you have up top). I know there's an easier way, I just haven't gotten around to figuring it out or setting it up. Thanks! [more inside]
