Mac or Firefox solution to download local copies of web sites?

I'm looking for Mac OSX software or a Firefox plug-in that will allow me to create local copies of web sites to be viewed later. I will be without web access for about a week and I want to do some work on few php and css projects. To do so, I will need to have tutorials handy. I'd like something for the Mac that will allow me to download a page including all graphics and download all the pages it links to (1 to 2 links deep).

Looking for two programs for my new Palm Treo 750 (which uses Windows Mobile 5) Smartphone that this previous thread, while very useful, didn't provide. Namely, a version of Firefox for mobile phones (like Opera mobile but free) and a good suggestion for an alarm clock that lets me use my MP3s as the alarm sound and, importantly, includes a snooze function.

I want my Firefox!

Why is Firefox so sluggish on my laptop? I love Firefox. I use it at work. I used to use it at home on my old desktop (which died).

In September of last year, I bought a shiny new Asus laptop which I absolutely love. But every time I've tried to download and use Firefox on it, the response time has been frustrating to the point where I've uninstalled it.

What's going on? I have to wait ten seconds or more each time I click anything before the browser will respond. Often the title bar has the Windows "not responding" message in it.

Any ideas? I'm running Windows XP Home. Save me from IE!

With Firefox 2.0 (did not happen on 1.5.) when I return to the previous page via the back button, I am always sent to the top of the previous page regardless of how far I had scrolled down prior to jumping to the next page. Can I set it to go back to the spot I had scrolled to and not to the top or am I stuck? (My current workaround is to use the add on script that creates a duplicate tab)

Gtalk (embedded in Gmail) is not playing nicely with my FireFox (v. 1.5.0.7). When any conversation box pops up, it makes the scroll bar disappear on the right. As if that weren't enough, it teases me by popping it back into view every few seconds, and the conversation box flips back and forth by about the width of the scroll bar - kind of like the page is trying to reload the scroll bar every couple of seconds. I've searched around and found nothing on this specific issue, please forgive me if I missed something. It makes conversations in gtalk next to impossible to have without going cross-eyed, really appreciate any help.

Is there a perfect OSX web browser out there for me?

I'm trying to find a (stable) OSX web browser that...

A) allows you to select text and right-click to search for that text in Google,
AND
B) displays bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar as favicons (not just plain text buttons). Firefox and Safari seem to do A, Camino has B, Shiira does both but it's hella unstable on my Intel Mac mini.

Or alternately... is there a way to customise Safari, Firefox or Camino so that they do both? I've searched high and low for relevant extensions with no success.

Camino is close to perfect, but not being able to right-click and Google something thing is annoying. Or am I just in need of a good bookmarklet script that does this?

Firefox stalls on certain sites and Opera 8 font-rendering bug

I'm having major problems with both Firefox (my browser of choice) and Opera 8. Firefox stalls consistently for a considerable amount of time (1 min - 5 mins) on specific sites (for instance del.icio.us/popular/) and Opera has a font-rendering bug on most sites (for instance, again, del.icio.us/popular/). Regarding the firefox problem (screenshot):
- oddly, during the time that firefox is not responding, the CPU usage is only between 0% and 2%.
- if, in the same session, I visit the site again or refresh it, it loads just fine. However, the problem can present itself for different sites multiple times in one session.
- I have Firefox 1.5, though I've had the problem since at least 1.0.4
- I've tried deleting my profile and creating a new one. No luck.
- I don't have any extensions installed, other than the Talkbalk one that comes with firefox.
- I've tried uninstalling the current version and reinstalling to a different directory. Again, no luck.

As far as the Opera 8 rendering bug is concerned (screenshot) , even when the website's css specifies a font that it should use to render the page, it will instead render the page with regular Bauer Bodoni LT in some instances and Bauer Bodoni LT RomanSC in others. It makes Opera completely unusable, since I can't tolerate reading long amounts of text in small caps. Maybe this will provide a clue: about a month ago wikipedia used to be displayed in Bauer Bodoni LT RomanSC, but now it shows up with a sans-serif font. Please help!

Firefox 1.5-Filter... I just installed Firefox 1.5, and now when I open it up there's this huge grey toolbar-like space at the bottom of the window with a small red upwards pointing arrow on the left [screenshot]. How do I get rid of it? If it helps, I have the following extensions installed: Talkback 1.5, Linky 2.7.1, Forecast Fox 0.8.2.5, TargetAlert 0.8.9.5, Tabbrowser Preferences 1.2.8.7, DownloadThemAll 0.9.8, Greasemonkey 0.6.4, Redirect Remover 1.1.
An easy way to check for Firefox extension upgrades in bulk?

Is there an easy way to tell which Firefox extensions have been updated for a new release? I want to upgrade to Firefox 1.5 but I've become quite attached to several extensions I have installed (about 19 of them, about half or so are essential). I don't want to upgrade until most if not all of these extensions are supported. Rather than run around to all the homepages, manually checking for updates, is there an easier way, an automated way, a consolidated method, for tracking these things?

In less than a month, I've had Firefox crash on one machine -- a new G4 Powerbook relatively free from stuff like GUI mods, extra software, a million extensions, etc. -- more than 15 times. Usually, it's while doing something innocuous, like trying to open a new tab. I have the same problem on my G5. Previous versions almost never crashed, and being a Mac user, I'm relatively unaccustomed to constant program crashes (oh, there were the early days of OS X, but let's not talk about those...)

Is Firefox a victim of its own success? I can't keep enduring the crashes; it's driving me back to Safari, which I don't even particularly like. Anyone using Deer Park without a massive crashfest?

Firefox update broke my themes and extensions.

I broke Firefox. (mi) I updated to Firefox 1.0 not too long ago and had some themes and extensions become incompatible in the process. So today, like an idiot, I switched to one of the incompatible themes. Now the browser window renders all goofy. No icons and everything is out of proportion. That's fine, except that the pulldown menus and all the preference windows render as blank, meaning I can't find my way back to the extensions and themes screen to switch back to the default theme. Is there a way to get rid of themes from within the Program Files directory?

Online Kitchen Timer

I'm looking for a timer application to use on my computer. I'm cooking for Thanksgiving the day ahead, and while the food is in the oven, I'm doing other things in the house. At the moment, I'm using the microwave as a timer. But I was wondering if there's an application or Firefox extension like an egg timer for my computer. Poking around Google isn't turning up much, but I'm also not sure how to word it. Anyone hear of or lay eyes on what I'm looking for?

What's wrong with my FF? It won't open pages that IE will.

Ok, I love Firefox. I have been using it since it came out. The question I have is that every now and then I will go to load a page and it says Cannot Resolve Host. Yet if I open it in IE it loads perfectly fine. Now this wouldn't be that big of a deal if it happened seldomly, however this happens after about 5 minutes of heavy website browsing. All of a sudden NO domain can be reached until I fire up IE first.

I do not have this problem with IE, nor do I get this problem on my mac with Safari or IE Mac. My question is, Did I screw up a setting somewhere in Firefox that it just hangs? Does anyone else suffer from this same problem? And is there a solution? As an added note, it crapped out on my when I pushed the preview and spell check buttons for the post.

Thunder on the upgrade

Help with Mozilla Thunderbird: I, somewhat foolishly, decided to upgrade my copy of Thunderbird yesterday at the same time as I was getting the new Fire[fox|bird]. I went from 0.3 to 0.5 and now I can't send mail from any of my accounts. [MI] When I try to send a message from any of my four accounts (3 POP, one IMAP), I immediately get an "Unable to connect to outgoing mail server, it may be down or not accepting SMTP connections" message. (Exact error text here.) I've already tried deleting and re-adding all the SMTP servers under Account Settings. Incoming mail still works fine.

In a move of surprising unhelpfulness, there is no help documentation included with the program. Clicking on the Help menu sends me to the texturizer.net Thunderbird Help site, but that domain has been knocked offline in the flood since the Firefox release.

Anyone have any advice or personal experience to offer?
