Help in rendering Gmail 'Last Accounty Activity' useless.

Automatically login / logout of Gmail at a specified interval As you know, gmail lists the latest activity at the bottom of the page, and shows the last few ip's and the times they logged in by clicking details.

I need to 'fool' this log, by automating logging in, and logging out at a specified interval. Some ideas would be through a firefox extension, applescript, a mouse clicking recording program, etc, but I haven't found any such solution.

Without going into details, I need to render the gmail activity log useless.

Warn before closing Gmail tab in Firefox

Is there a way to have Firefox warn me before I close a tab containing Gmail? I use Gmail chat extensively, so it is frustrating when I accidentally close the Gmail tab in the middle of a conversation. Whenever I close a Gmail tab, I'd like a dialogue box asking me to confirm my intentions.

I use Firefox, so I'm wondering if an appropriate extension exists? Any other thoughts?

Want to master the Fox!

Help a computer light-weight make the most of Firefox and gmail. My IE has been crashing at least 6-7 times a day and I'm done! So I just switched to firefox. Never had anything against firefox, just didn't want to take the time to get used to something new. So now that I have made the switch, what are some of the best tips and tricks that you have to make the most of Firefox and gmail. I read alot on Mefi about greasemonkey scripts but I have no clue what that means. I'm not a very advanced user so please keep things basic and speak slowly. I did a mefi search and figured out a few things but I'd like to find out specific favorites of my fellow mefites. Thanks so much!

Gmail open link in new tab?

In Firefox, I use the middle button of my mouse to open links in a new tab. I really wish I could do that with gmail (i.e., middle click on several emails and have them open each in a new tab, or middle click on "compose mail" so that would open in a new tab). Is there any way to do that? Some links actually work already, such as inbox, other folders and labels.

As a somewhat distant second choice, right clicking and selecting "open in a new tab" would be better than nothing.

Help, visited messages within Gmail won't change colors.

I have Firefox 3 color options set so that visited links turn a dark Grey when clicked, every site seems to work with this but the sender and subject lines in Gmail.. What's strange is the links on the left hand side of the Gmail page (Inbox, starred, sent mail, drafts, etc ) go dark when clicked on. Does anyone know if Google uses some special CSS or something on the right hand side, can this be overridden so the visited links will turn the Grey I have checked?

Firefox Tab Switching

Firefox won't tab-switch out of Gmail/Compose I constantly use Ctrl-PageUp and Ctrl-PageDown to switch from one Firefox tab to another.

However, when I open a new outgoing message in Gmail, Ctrl-PageUp and Ctrl-PageDown don't work. I can switch with a mouse click, but I want my keyboard shortcut.

Is there a setting I can change on Firefox's about:config page, or perhaps in Gmail to make it let go of the focus?

why won't Firefox auto-open a new message to send in Gmail when I click on an email address? It used to work just fine- click and boom! I'm sending mail. Now, I just get "Loading..." forever. It's a small thing, I know, but I got spoiled by the whole 'boom' thing. I'm on a Mac with 10.4.
Gmail and Firefox: Not Stronger than Dirt

Yesterday, the "dynamic" (aka AJAX) version of Gmail stopped working for me in Firefox. I am using FF 2.0.0.9, but when I go to gmail (or Google Calendar) I am getting a message saying my browser is not supported, and they throw me into the standard html version. What's going on here? (more after the jump) I am using Windows Vista Home edition, have JavaScript enabled in Firefox, and gmail was previously working fine for me with this version of FF. Haven't installed anything new lately. I have tried disabling extensions, no help there either. Basically it's as if gmail thinks I'm coming in on some weird browser.

Looks like this guy had a similar problem, but his workaround solution (using https: instead of http:) didn't work for me.

Suggestions on how to troubleshoot?

Grey text, a short cut to eye strain

Gmail annoyance: With every autosave, gmail changes the black text in the writing field to a blurry grey. Ouch, my eyes! How to disable? This, er, feature seems to have erupted with the purchase of my new 24" iMac. It didn't seem to be active when I typed out emails on Firefox on my previous machine, an old, slow Mac Mini. This could be sheer coincidence, of course. In any event, I began to notice it two months ago.

I'd prefer to text to remain in a constant black state during autosave -- and, of course, retain the very useful autosave feature. And continue to use Firefox as my browser of choice.

If I have to disable dynamic html to get rid of the grey text, well, I'll bite the bullet and do it. But only as a last resort.

Disabling hints?

I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.5 and Roboform extension v6.9.4. When I visit Gmail, I get a ridiculously high memory spike, usually about 200mb. Why is this? I've narrowed the problem down to visiting Gmail (standard view) with Roboform enabled. If Roboform is disabled, or if I use the HTML only view, I have no problem. The memory stays used until I close down Firefox, at which point it gets released. Closing the Gmail tab has no effect on the memory. Gmail is the only site that this happens on. If I close the Gmail tab, then revisit Gmail in the same session, I get another spike, and so on until Firefox crashes completely.

I've cleanly uninstalled both Firefox and Roboform (and the extension), and reinstalled, to no effect. I've disabled all the other extensions I use, in Safe Mode, and enabled only Roboform, and it still occurs.

What's going on? And more importantly, what can I do to fix/prevent it?

Greasemonkey script for Gmail

I'm looking for a Firefox Greasemonkey script that will hide a conversation in Gmail.

I subscribe to a number of mailing lists and be it would be great if there was a script I could use to a "Quite" or "Silence" button to move that email and any replies to my straight archived or deleted folder. Maybe I will have to make it myself but I have had a look for it and cannot find what I am looking for. Cheers

Gmail-Hack-Attack-Filter: I installed the Greasemonkey script for Gmail as spelled out here, and it works just super-awesome, except for one thing... When I try to bring up the Greasemonkey help menu (by hitting "?"), it only brings up part of it. In FF 1.5 it brought up the top half, but the bottom half fell off the screen and I couldn't figure out how to scroll it up. Now, in FF 2.0, its falling off the top half of the screen, so I only see the bottom half of the Greasmonkey overlay. Gmail in the background still appears as normal.

Gtalk (embedded in Gmail) is not playing nicely with my FireFox (v. 1.5.0.7). When any conversation box pops up, it makes the scroll bar disappear on the right. As if that weren't enough, it teases me by popping it back into view every few seconds, and the conversation box flips back and forth by about the width of the scroll bar - kind of like the page is trying to reload the scroll bar every couple of seconds. I've searched around and found nothing on this specific issue, please forgive me if I missed something. It makes conversations in gtalk next to impossible to have without going cross-eyed, really appreciate any help.

Help with gmail on firefox?

I give up. Question about gmail opening in the same window then closing when I send the message. Using Firefox. I swear I'm usually good at figuring this stuff out on my own. Here's an example, but please note this does not just happen on Craigslist. This is just the most recent example.

On Craigslist when you click the anon email link, it opens in the same window (so I tried to figure out a way to change that, but couldn't). Right clicking DOES NOT give the option of "open in new window" or new tab.

So a gmail message pops up in the window I was using to view Craigslist, and if I compose and send that email, the window closes and I have to open Firefox again, go to Craigslist again, and start my search again. Annoying.

I've tried searching for a way to change Firefox's "link properties" and came up short. Tried to search google/gmail for a way to force gmail to always pop up in a new window, no luck. Any help? Thanks!

Viva la web revolucion!

What is this web revolution I see before me? Over the course of the past year I have had a lot of time to surf the web and have come to the conclusion that a new era of web based communication is unfolding before my very eyes. It started when I stumbled across Lifehacker.com, which showed me a whole new side of the internet that I had never conceived of. From that point I began to discover websites that re-oriented the way I've come view information creation, distribution, and storage (Ask Metafilter being one of those discoveries). Some examples of websites I lump into this category are:

*Del.icio.us
*Metafilter
*Ask Metafilter
*Lifehacker
*Wikipedia
*Firefox
*Google (and it's all it's applications including <a href=http://www.mail.google.com" ">Gmail and Gcal)
*Flickr
*Blogger/Wordpress/etc.
*Bloglines

The list goes on and on and is constantly growing (thanks largely to Lifehacker discoveries). Obviously Google and Wikipedia were known to me prior to my new found web exploration, but only as straight forward tools. It's only in the last 8 months that I've come to understand the potential of their design (e.g. Google Map Mash-ups and wiki-technology as a whole).

Among the above listed websites and others I identify in my "web revolution," I see common themes. The use of tagging is widely present as well as the concept of the blog (In reality Lifehacker and Metafilter/Ask Metafilter are just widely popular blogs with no single author and Flickr is essentially a collection of thousands of photo blogs). I guess even deeper than that is the theme of individual empowerment through the web. Most of these sites were not generated by large corporations (although they may later have been aquired by them), but rather created by a single individual or small group of individuals in order to address an existing need they percieved.

So my questions. Does anyone else see the watershed that I speak of, or is this normal web progression and my "revolution" is simply a personal one? If this is an actual distinct movement within the internet, does it have a name or other identifying characteristics similar or different to the ones I listed above?

Two parter about cats walking on computer keyboards and havoc their little toes wreak: 1) One of our cats has managed to hit a random set of strokes on my wife's laptop, such that now every time she clicks on a message in Gmail it opens as a popup. This is really and truly a popup, not just opening in a new window: there's no address bar and the first time it happened, she was actually blocked from viewing the e-mail by the popup blocker in firefox. All of this occured while she had Firefox open to the Gmail page, on a dell laptop running XP home SP2. Can't seem to find the setting to switch them back to just opening in the current tab. Anybody know?

2) In general, is there any application that will let you lock keyboard input with a few keystrokes, or maybe as part of a right click menu to prevent these cat based random entires in the future? (And, speaking preemptively, PawSense is out: I'm not paying twenty bucks for something I can't at least demo before hand.)

Firefox blocking gmail popups

Firefox is blocking gmail popups, such as the ones for attachments and user info. How to fix? It didn't previously do this, I'm not sure how it got changed. Under tools - options - block popup windows - the box is not checked, so it should allow them, yes? no?

Set FireFox to use Gmail to handle mailtos?

How to force FireFox to use Gmail instead of LookOut2003 to handle mailtos? Firefox 1.0.4, Office 2K3 on WinXPSP2. Outlook took over when I upgraded from Office2K and it'll grab mailto and "Send image" right clicks even if Outlook is not running. I've (re)installed the Gmail notifier and checked the use as mailto handler box to no avail. Removing Outlook is unfortunately not an option.

How to stop Gmail popping forward upon loading or reloading Firefox?

Gmail consistently pops forward upon loading or reloading on Firefox, and did so when I was using Mozilla. This really bugs me, and I don't like using tabs. Can anyone tell me how to make this stop? iMac 10.3.5, did this to me before on my "toilet seat" laptop.
