Three cheeseballs in the shape of a snowman?

I need a good, NON-SWEET Christmas morning snacky food! For years my family's Christmas tradition involved eating pumpkin pie and tons of candy on Christmas morning while we opened presents. This made everyone feel really gross. Two years ago I stumbled on the idea of having a cheese plate out in addition to the pie, and it was a revelation. Protein! Something without craploads of sugar! Amazing!

Cheese plate's a little dull, though, and also a little pricey for us. So now I'm looking for something else to make for Christmas morning.

We usually sit around on couches and the floor, and take a couple of hours to slowly open presents. A non-drippy, non-sticky finder food is ideal for this- it won't get on the couch and it won't get on the presents. Something that isn't super fatty would also be good, we eat enough fat on Christmas (that's another reason to ditch the cheese). Oh, and it needs to be makeable the day before, because Christmas is for sitting on one's ass. However, I'm not opposed to making something complicated.

Debate party ideas?

Need help/ideas on politically inspired appetizers for the upcoming 2008 Presidential Debates. Like the previous two threads (which were great!) - I'm looking for themed easy appetizers/finger foods for the Obama/Mccain & Biden/Palin debates. No special dietary requirements either, just tasty and funny.

Thanks!

I want to feed them; they're too busy to eat.

What is a good protein-y gift food for a busy office? A friend of mine is a tax preparer who owns her own business, which means that this time of year she works 10-12 hour days seven days a week for about ten weeks straight. It's a tough time of year for her and her partner, and I like to remember them during it by dropping something by the office. Last year the kids and I took a flower arrangement, and that was nice. This year I'd like to take food, but I don't know what. Here are the criterion I'd like to meet:

1. It should be something that can sit around on a table for a few hours without going bad, and that will be tasty at room temp.

2. It should be something that people can just grab and nosh--no prep or especially messy stuff. I'm picturing people eating from their hands as they walk back to their offices, then giving their hands a quick wipe-off and getting right back to the keyboard.

3. It shouldn't just be sweet--I don't want to just do cookies or brownies, although that would be nice, I'm sure. I'd like to do something that has a bit of protein to it, so that it might help somebody get through those last two client meetings before dinner without passing out.

4. I'd like it to be something interesting.

I am happy to either prepare it myself, or to give something that can be bought. I live in a town where I can probably get unusual ingredients if necessary, or buy something ethnic.

Is there a food that meets these criterion? I'd love suggestions.

Super Tuesday party ideas?

We're having a Super Tuesday party at our house, and we're looking for funny politically-related finger food ideas (half-moon cookies anyone?) as well as some good party names (like Super Booze-day). People of all political stripes will of course be welcome, but we're all Obama supporters, FWIW.

Engagment Edibles

I need some tips on food that go with the words "Will You Marry Me?" I'm proposing to my girlfriend tomorrow and I've got everything nailed down except the menu. We're going on a picnic to a place we know and so all suggestions have to be transportable in a backpack/ plastic bag.

Orginally I was thinking deli sandwiches, but then I realized that was a tummy deicision and not a smart logistical move. I'm looking for stuff that won't over commit our mouths for talking, or our hands for ring purposes (so in other words I'm looking for finger foods). I was thinking chocolate dipped pretzels would be good, but a lunch comprised entirely of chocolate coated sodium sticks (while yummy) isn't exactly that creative.

Any ideas?
