I have a BS degree in Information Science/Technology and have just completed a further post-graduate degree in the same field. I was awarded my degree with distinction and could most likely go on to a PhD if I wanted to. I am also currently looking for work in my field and am confident to find a job. The thing is, I really don't like IT. I try to convince myself that there is something I would like, but in all honesty, I am not excited about any of the jobs I'm looking at much less continuing on with more education (although that would at least allow me to explore something I may somewhat like).

Having found the lump a year ago this June, it took me until today to find the courage to try doing something. Many of the sites I found said to go through my local health department, so I finally worked up the courage to walk in today. They had no idea what to say, and no longer offer any program that would help. I walked out with a pamphlet for a clinic in another town that they think "might" have a program to help with a sliding payment scale but they weren't even sure about that. [more inside]

Hi everyone I'm relocating for the first time ever out of the family home. Should I start should start house hunting now *for a rental) while I'm away, or wait till I get there (I'm very happy to hostel it for a bit, as I don't know of anyone in the area and I'm a bit funny about couchsurfing).

I'm seeking a specific silver hook and eye clasp for a fisherman bracelet I lost. The hook piece has a swordfish embossed on it. I have looked high and low on the big jewelry, jewelry and beading supply sites and etsy but no luck.
Picture of clasp
Immense sentimental value! I've seen Ask MeFi work some crazy magic in the past, I'd be eternally grateful for your help!

Anyone recommend a family doctor in Vancouver/Burnaby? One that can deal with allergies would be nice. Or at least give me suggestions on how to get one, because I've never done this before. [more inside]

I am 37, female, married and have a BA in Psychology and an MA in English/Creative Writing. Was a public school librarian for years and burned out. I need a career and don't know where to go from here. I've spent too long hating going to work, and I want a job I'll love going to every day. [more inside]

This is a shot in the dark, but maybe you well-read, politically minded people can help: I am trying to track down a short commentary I remember reading around election day 2008. It was written in a French newspaper, I believe, and it was a short piece, but the basic gist was: "Today we are one with america. that may change later, but today we're one" re: the Obama win. I feel like I saw it linked in Andrew Sullivan's Daily Dish, but couldn't find it in the archives. I was voraciously reading so many sites at the time that I have no idea where it actually was. It was just a beautiful piece and I would like to read it again and keep it around. If it rings a bell with someone, that would be great!

My father and his mother were separated from his father by events in WWII in Poland. I'd like to find him. I've tried a few things but would much appreciate more help. Are there any Polish Mefites out there or anyone who has searched for people who are probably dead. [more inside]

I'm trying to find my half-brother in Ecuador. All I know is his mom's name and that she came to Boston in the mid-late 70's to study English. Her and my father dated for a while and I found out through letters that she sent him that they had a child.
Any ideas on how to find my half-brother?

Finding lost money filter. I was the executor for my Dads estate. The bulk of the work was done long ago, but I'm getting contacted by a company that says they know about some money still in his name. What can I do to find these funds myself?
