I'll be shooting a feature film in L.A. later this year, and I need some advice about how to handle the business side. I'm hoping that somewhere there's some sort of low-budget service that provides help to people who are new to the process.

I'm having a really hard time finding a reputable mortgage broker. The property is in Boston, MA, but I'm willing to work with someone in another state. The most important thing is that they're not slimy or condescending. Can you recommend someone in my area? Anyone to avoid?

My wife and I are buying a house in Austin, Texas ( Steiner Ranch ). We are trying to figure out how we want to finance it. We have the means to pay for the house with cash. We are being offered a mortgage at 3.6%. The cost of the house would represent about 50% of our net worth. The other 50% is fairly liquid, with an even spread between 401k, index funds, 529's, and cash. Should we do it?

I have the reverse problem of most startups... within two years I built a solid and unique brand, with a high media profile and street cred, proven content and products, and a passionate audience of over 240,000 people and growing. But although people congratulate me daily on my success I'm literally exhausted and starving. People circle me daily wanting to "sponsor" me, but I've found most of them want to make money *off* of me, not pay me and help me grow. Fact is, I'm accepting now that I just can't do it all by myself and I don't even WANT to... but I'm a victim of my own quick success. Without a staff and resources I can't expand, grow and monetize as I *need* to in order to meet the demand.

My friends bought a new car in Canada, moved to the States, and just discovered that they violated their financing agreement by taking the car abroad for over 30 days. Nissan Canada's financing people say they have a month to pay the whole car off--$18,000--or it gets repossessed and their credit is ruined. They don't have that kind of money. What would you do?

I own a forum which caters to a narrow interest in a small language, so it will never be huge. However, I still have to pay for hosting and decided to spring for a vBulletin licence last year. So I'm paying a modest sum out of pocket yearly. To help offset this I'm currently running a low level of AdSense ads. This does not bring in much, but I'm unwilling to "upgrade" to big, annoying ads. I'm considering implementing a PayPal donation button. What I'm unsure of are the social dynamics of this.

What viable alternatives to Care Credit exist for financing expensive and drawn-out medical procedures?

Should I take out a car loan? I live in an expensive country but it looks like I'm about to get a steady job with a decent salary. My partner too. We're about to make the move from student style living to normal life and I want to finally buy a decent car that will last a while. But I'm not sure if taking out a loan on a car is a good idea, especially when the car won't increase in value.

Last week Obama eschewed the public financing system for the general election. It seems that many of the articles I am reading are
saying that he is the "first major party candidate to reject public financing and its attendant spending limits." Do they mean in this election, or ever? If they mean "first-ever" (since public financing started) and public financing means a candidate can't raise private funds, then why is there always so much talk of candidates hosting various fund-raising events like $x,000-a-plate dinners? Are the publicly financed campaigns having their PACs raise money or what?
