I have finally paid off all my delinquent credit card debts. My credit rating is pretty crappy though. But I now have a secure job, and am now ready to re-open some of the closed accounts (if it's even possible), and also hopefully reinstate the original credit-limits on them. But there's that pesky issue of my credit rating standing in the way. What is my best strategy to get my credit back on track? [more inside]

I've got two credit cards with interest rates of 21.24% and 23% - both with balances over $5K. Both banks have sent me convenience checks - one with 3.99% fixed APR for life of balance - the other with 0% through August (then 17% after). Can I 'swap' the debt from one card to the other by using a convenience checks to pay the balance and getting lower interest rates? I'm paying my debt off every month - but if I can get it to grow slower, I thought this would be a way to do that.

How should I repair my bad credit? I'm 26, my income ($53k) exceeds my expenses and I have only $1.5k debt, but I was awful about paying bills on time until the last year or so. Now I'm finding it difficult to secure a car loan. I haven't even gotten a credit report because I'm afraid to look at it. I will probably end up talking to a credit counselor, but I thought I'd ask for advice before I do. College kids, don't wait until the utility bill is yellow to pay it. Trust me.

Is there such a thing as a disposable credit card?

I'm starting to get paranoid about my credit history for some reason (probably because I just applied for a Visa Platinum card for the helluvit), so I googled up "Credit Check" and was bombarded with what seemed endless websites offering to give me a free credit check. I don't want to accidently be scammed or anything, so anybody have recommendations on legit places to get a credit check? (free is preferred, but I know thats not always the case)
