About a year ago, I accidentally archived a ton of old emails in my Gmail account, without putting any labels on any of them. (I thought I knew how archiving worked at the time, but obviously I was wrong) [more inside]

Mozilla Thunderbird: When I place a message into a folder I want to simply right click the message and select "Place all future/past messages from this sender into this folder". How could I achieve such simple filtration?

More than half my outgoing emails wind up in spam folders. I realize that it's inevitable this will happen sometimes, but how can I minimize it?
I use gmail, and I do not, fwiw, use words like "mortgage", "refinance" or "penis" in my messages. I sometimes use a sig, but it's non-hypeish. I do often send links in the body of my emails.
One solution is to follow up re: unreplied-to emails, but 1. if someone did receive my mail but hasn't had time to reply, I look pushy and 2. chances are that my follow-up will be spam filtered, too.

Is there a server based, spam filter that will work with any ISP? I have a friend who cannot change ISPs or email services, he is paying a lot for dial-up time, and he gets about 100 spam: 1 valid email. Is there a spam filter that will check his current email for him and delete the spam, allowing him to keep his current email and ISP? [more inside]

So I use Thunderbird, and am generally pretty happy with it. I have a couple of problems, though, which the Mozilla knowledge base isn't helping me with. More on filters and weird duplicated downloading inside... [more inside]

In the last couple of weeks Gmail's normally-astute spam filtering has totally given up the ghost in one specific area: stock spam. It seems like every single stock spam slips past the filter and ends up in my inbox. At the moment every other time I get a new email it comes with a subject like "Leading auth0rity On l0w priced st0cks". Anyone else having the same issue? Has Gmail's spam filter started to show cracks?

What is a decent, free spam filter for Outlook Express? Suggestions that I use another mail client are not necessary.
